How does Prime handle drivers wanting to go company when they come in and there are no trucks available? Does the process of getting your passport, twic mean you are still in the process of being hired or are you in the most likely will be hired position?

    silenteagle Thanks this.

There are always company trucks, sometimes they have to send guys out to the other terminals to get them. If you are suggesting the ole bait "no company truck" but you can lease scam, I have never heard anyone complain that that happened to them.

Getting your Comdata/ID badge is usually the point Prime considers you an actual employee. They don't give those out until everything clears with drug test, medical eval, background check, and classes have been completed.

    I need to clarify.

Students are not yet considered employees until they get their CDL. However, they do have Comdata/badges but with a green border.

Yellow bordered designate Comdata/badges that are driver employee.

Trainees are employees and get yellow bordered badges when they graduate PSD with their CDL, or at the end of orientation if they attended an outside school.

If your husband does happens to hit on a day that there are no trucks available, the drill is go back to leasing the next day for a truck assignment - it's an unusual situation though. All truck assignments whether company or lease are made through the leasing office, and as ChuckTaylor indicated, it's not part of one of those scams like CR England or TransAm pull on their new company drivers. The company will cover his room and board, but he may have to ask his new FM for a meal card to cover the extra day or so.

When I started in '07, Freightliner had just announced an immediate shutdown of the Century production line at the end of November - with no advanced notice, and wouldn't start delivering the new Cascadia line until January - which put all of their customers in a bind. My choice was to take out an old truck that had about 90 days left before it was being turned-in, or to wait until something came available. I chose to take the old truck out - there wasn't any pressure to lease, and in fact, the lease operators were in the same bind.

He would be happy with a truck that just runs withoug all the problems of breakdowns, even if it is older. Sometimes the new trucks don't have the kinks worked out yet. I think he wants a freightliner if one is available.

This is a very good thread. I graduate from school on the 25th of January and I have found the Prime employee posters to represent quite well. I'm a non-traditional,or maybe not, new driver trying to sift thru all the info that is floating around. FWIW I'm 49 with some education and hope to move through the ranks. It looks like this is possible! As a certified teacher I can recognize a caring and thorough instruction staff. I'm pretty impressed and this moves Prime up quite a few notches.

    Thanks for the information!

Could someone help me. I recall someone posting somewhere on here what they recommended new trainees bringing with them to training. If someone knows what the link to that post is. Could you please reply to this post with it. Thanks.
