Yup he has a DD13 and says it shouldn't be nothing more than a city use truck. He has 44,000 on it and it is supposed to be able to do 48,000.
If the companies would leave the horsepower alone, perhaps it would work, but .... This is going to be a long drive, 275 miles taking 6-7 hrs. -
If your talking just the tractor, I really could not tell you. But with a trailer I have ran 48,500 and it maxed me out just under 80K. Of course keep in mind with these lightweights there are 3 different styles, Pete's, Freightliners, and the Internationals. And then on the freightliner side you have single and then dual tanks. Just depends on how old the tractor is. The 2010's had single tanks and I think some of the 2011's did also.
Then you also have to keep in mind the year of the trailer as the older trailers are heavier than the new ones. -
LOL I remember those days, I would hit the bottom at 68 and start up the other side and hit 25 at the top, Ugh. But then again, as I could haul those 47K loads I very seldom sat long. I also tried to stay away from running on 44 and I-70 in MO. Friggin hills will kill u.
275 miles he should make it in 5.5 hours lol -
Your husband was hired to do a job... drive a truck with very heavy loads, and get great fuel mileage doing it. There's only one way that happens: use less power and slow down. Most of the new drivers we have don't know how to really drive a truck, so the power is cut back and the speed limited to help them out. It means we gear down a lot to get over the hills. So that's the deal... lighter weight truck to get more into the trailer, great fuel economy to support the business objectives of the company. A lot of folks can't do it, or don't have the discipline to drive that way. There's always Swift.

That's what the orginal spec with the Pete 386's was for... about 49,500 max with one of the ECO49 trailers. They've backed off on that a little with the Cascadias they're using now.

The ECO-49 is a reefer trailer

And the rest of us have to navigate around these rolling traffic jams. Last week 2 of them nose to tail in the second lane of 4 doing 55 in a 65 . Nearest exit ramp was 7 miles ahead.........
My business objective prevailed Tks ......
