Ask the recruiter to do the training and prove to him it can't be done legally. It's probably the only way to convince a MORON like that.

I don't think you could do it legally, but the Co. knows that and will use the home dayly as an incentive for you to "bend" the rules and get it done.
I face the same thing often and have made it clear when I hit my 11/14/70 I'm done. They don't like it but can really say nothing about it. Be prepared for some LONG days!

Not being a big proponent of Bing, or Mapquest, I chose to use Google Earth and got 96.4 miles center of town to center of town (not very precise but a given for what was supplied). Travel time was 2 hours and 9 minutes assuming that your truck can climb these hills at the speed limit (not gonna happen, Brother). The State Police are frequent flyers along these routes too so let's be legal and assume a reasonable (and safe) 2.5 hours to cover ongoing construction, traffic, lights, fuel stops, scales and terrain.

10 hours of driving time (and this is being really tight) leaves you with only 1 hour of cushion and three hours to load and offload. I am going to presume that your first trip will be with a preloaded trailer. If your recruiter had half a brain, he/she would be having you dropping and hooking three trailers so that one could be getting loaded while you're hauling the other to get dropped. You then could pull an empty back to the loading point, drop it and hook up again to the loaded trailer that was loaded while you were on your way to Mountain Top.

I've only been driving about twice as long as you have but, to me, this 'opportunity' is going to make your recruiter rich while killing you real fast.

Running legal?... I have my reservations on that. Getting home?... daily?... Hahahahaaa.... ya think?

Ok since We Both know the area VERY well--lets look at it realistically--and using some modern stuff--PC Miler says it is 97 miles--and Im gonna guess again u r still? gonna haul a short tank?
23-772-222-61-895-(this is where pc mess it up--so Ill change)443-309-81-309
    IMHO--daylight hours loaded-3 hours--overnight--might pull it off in 2.5
In all honesty just getting off 222 onto 61 north in the daytime can take you 20 mins--much longer at the wrong time of day---just the run from 222 thru leesport--and up to 895 catching every light can easily run 30 mins
So again IMHO--realistically you'll never pull two turns off legally--maybe 1.5--but what do I know LOL

With 37 years experience, a lot!!! I trust your judgement and offer much thanks to you for chiming in and giving your opinion! Most everyone including yourself have told me what I kind of knew considering the route, traffic, and terrrain. I was, however, looking for opinions from those whom are more seasoned than myself just in case my number crunching was off. Guess it wasn't.

Thanks to all who responded. I think I'll pass on this "opportunity".

Brother, you nailed it as well as most of the other reply's on this post. "Quote Originally Posted by Voyager1968 View Post

You must remember Driver, even without a CDL, if you are driving a CMV, you still have rules you must follow. In your case, since you are so tight on your time, if you have anything that pops up out of the ordinary, you will be driving illegally. Flat tire, two trucks ahead of you when you were going to be first, traffic accident, they are not ready to load you, ect. Even though you are not required to fill out the logbook, as others have posted, you must still account for your time.

Like the man said, "Running legal?... I have my reservations on that. Getting home?... daily?... Hahahahaaa.... ya think?

NEVER FORGET, when you are the Driver, you will be the first in line when "fingers start wagging" and it will be "Your License" being effected. It does not matter if you fill out a logbook or not, you WILL BE held to the same standards, PERIOD! I have had those runs before and got real tired, real quick, of having to try and sleep in a day cab. Good Luck and I am sure you will make the right decision. Drive Safe!

amen!!! any time im not sure of something, this is EXACTLY who i want giving me his two cents...the guy thats been there, done that 100k more times than i have. and i saw you were both more experinced than i, as well as more familiar with the terrain. just felt that you were looking for people to basically confirm what you already kinda knew.

Indeed I was. The recruiter called as I was finishing up my last run of the day. Heading back to the yard, I was running the "trip" through my head, and it didn't seem right. When I got home, I checked Bing Maps (Google does seem to be better) and that confirmed what I was thinking. Getting the opinions of other seasoned veterans helped in the decision making process though.
