Only made it through day and half of orientation.....now what

Its an orientation test-drive. No big deal if you didnt pass. Find someone else and try again.

Dont quote me but im pretty sure that if you only make it to like the road test then the company wont even record it as you being there. I think somewhere i read that but not totally sure

I wouldn't expect anyone to drive a truck perfectly out of school. Some people just need a little more to adjust to get used to a new vehicle.

Some companies will ask if you have been to orientations and why you left. If the company paid for your transportation and hotel room etc. They probably will put it on your record that you were let go. It's not and end to your career. I don't know why they let people go for hitting curves. So learn from your mistake and take wider turns next time.

 

Don't worry about it, you are certainly not the first person who has done this. In my opinion if you didn't receive a paycheck, then you didn't work there, therefore don't bring it up. Call another company and you can be honest without mentioning this blip on the screen. If they ask you if you hit a curb in orientation with another company, tell the truth. If any driver tells you they have never run their trailer tires on a curb, they are lying! Learn from this and use power mirrors if available and don't ever be embarrassed to stop, get out and look, if you think you may hit something. I would rather have a line of pissed off cars behind me, than hit something!

 

A third of the recruits will be sent home because of failing the driving test. Most of these wont be able to find the gears.

 

well, i can set a couple incorrect posts here straight. your brief stint with this company may or may not go onto your dac. i went to orientation for a company a few years ago (maybe 5) and had been lied to about the logs. when i found out they were on elogs, i quit. id been assigned a truck, but i did not drive it a single foot. got in, saw elogs, and called them up to quit. in retrospect, it was stupid, but i had an aversion to the idea of elogs, and theyd told me id be on paper logs. its on my dac. i would explain it to any prospective company just like i explained it here. hasnt been a problem.

no, your career isnt over before it begins. there are many companies out there that will still hire you (assuming you can pass their road test). i know its a pita, but when youre ready, its time to start the application process all over again. good luck to you.

and i agree with banker...if anyone tells you theyve never hit a curb, dont believe em. heck, id be hard pressed to believe anyone who says they havent hit a curb in the last 2 years.
