Husband started driving commercially almost a yr ago..on second company now. Is considering KLLM, so need some current input from KLLM drivers. Did read the most recent 'new home' blog...not sure their yellow brick road will still be so bright a few miles down the way. Wish them all the best. Still would like to hear from current KLLM drivers who have been with the company for a while.

wish my (ex?) good friend was still in contact with me. changed his number at some point (steve aka cowboy, anyone know him), and have no way to contact. he started with them about a year ago, and while we were still in contact he was very happy with them. (steve, aka cowboy...anyone reading this know him?)

I worked at KLLM for 4 years 2008 through 2012 the last 3 as a lease purchase operator. The main reason I left was I wanted more freedom to pick my, own loads and areas to run. I've worked for far worse companies then Kllm. Worst experience I had there was getting home on time I live in fla and kllm has a se regional so there regional drivers got the numbers good loads and the otr drivers got the scraps.

My entire 22 months in trucking have been with KLLM.
I have "only heard" the stories of Lease drivers doing very well and others going 13 weeks straight with no take home after expenses. Stories of never getting the "money loads". But we all know about trucker stories...
My first eleven months I was regional out of portage Indiana. I did not ##### to get only good loads and was averaging only $750 a week. I ran as hard as they dispatched me. Even got a few compliments and "thanks" for getting the loads delivered on time.
Then I lucked into a dedicated route, home nightly and was making a bit more. But salaried! Then moved to Intermodal rail support and can almost double that $750 if I work seven days. Salaried for M-F, again home nightly, and additional pay for weekends. Being salaried is good when freight is slow this time of year.
In March I will be the completing my second year and I will gain my second week of paid vacation. $100 bonuses for working holidays, and sometimes the day before. $500 bonus for working nonstop certain weeks consecutively in the pre Christmas rush.
The Health plan they offer is lame. Flat payout for claims, like $2300 for a heart attack...
Red Hot Mess on these boards is also a KLLM driver and I believe is OTR. Look her up and ask how things are going with her. Feel free to PM me as well.
I like that, as opposed to a smaller company, they have 24 hour dispatch and road breakdown support. Newer trucks for company drivers, after about 300K they move them to the lease program. A few trailers are long in the tooth, but they are not painted over used ones from other companies and they usually add a few hundred new trailers each year.

KLLM pays 0.32 cents per mile with no raise again this year for company drivers. I have never met a KLLM lease driver who is happy with the KLLM lease program. Lease drivers pay all the truck expenses and KLLM keeps almost all the profit until he quits then another sucker takes over the truck for about a month. The lease program has ruined all the KLLM company driver trips. Lease drivers can turn down trips so KLLM company drivers get the trash can trips like short-hauls, mountain routes, snow routes, going to customers that are known for the longest wait times and no drop hooks. Company drivers are forced to do swaps with lease drivers near customer locations so company drivers do all the waiting and lease drivers keep moving and paying the truck expenses. KLLM has no safety bonus pay. No idle bonus pay. No APU's and no inverters allowed in company trucks. When I arrived at one of the company yards and asked the shop to repair my qualcomm during my time off they said I must drive the truck to a repair shop across town and begin my time off after I spend a few hours finishing the repair of their equipment. KLLM does not pay for actural miles driven. Only paid zip code to zip code mileage (household movers guide miles). KLLM company drivers are paid only $25 for some trips that are less than 100 miles and you still spend hours waiting at the KLLM customer. No detention pay if the KLLM driver arrives late to a customer even though not the driver's fault. KLLM does not pay mileage for driving the truck from your last customer to your time-off location. KLLM holiday bonus pay for staying on the road during the Xmas and New Year holiday is a joke. The holiday period paychecks are the same as all the paychecks during the year. More customers are closed and miles are less during the holiday period. The bonus just makes up the difference. It does not add money to a paycheck. The bonus just makes up for the loss of miles since it is slow. KLLM will take your new company truck away every 3 to 4 months and lease it to a lease driver. You will be awake all night during the process of moving your stuff from your truck to a storage locker and then at dawn starting your ride across the country to recover an abandoned truck that needs service or won't even start.

Hubby says he has already talked to a couple of KLLM drivers OTR, and basically they said the same thing...'stay-away.' Were not 'happy campers.' He is really thinking an APU is a necessary item onboard, so will be checking into reefers with APU's for their drivers. Gonna stay put for now, see what summer brings. Feb will be 1yr OTR experience, which might give him a few more choices. Thanks for all the input!!

I can't comment on KLLM specifically but if you look at the OP's posting history this is all he/she talks about. Makes me think it is someone who can't handle the job and is bitter about it.
