Hi guys, i have 2007 isx 550 and have had a dpf delete done. Problem is I get black smoke when starting out and when boost is low(around 15psi) nothing at 40psi boost. Dpf was cracked so we put a 4 in hole in it. Truck also had new Turbo and turbo controller installed before reprograming was done. About 3 mos old. What I am wondering is the shop that did the reprogramming did not put any blocks in place. At intake or at egr. My thought is maybe egr is opening a little and letting exhaust into intake. Truck egr is about 3 years old. Another truck we did runs just fine done the same way! Any input Thanks!

I had an 2006 with a 565 isx, are you getting high pyro temps and loosing power? I was told by Cummins an egr will last about 2 yrs. but like I said that was an 06 with the egr on the pass side of the engine. Even if you have it unplugged it can work its way open, happened to me, those egrs can get expensive, egt sensor may also be bad. hope this helps

Koolk, I'm willing to bet it's an EGR valve
-
Yeah Thanks guys. I am leaning that way as well. Egr might be sticking open with the pressure from the exhaust manifold. It is ecm bypassed, I had that checked! Prob have to block at intake and after egr cooler. Wonder if someone make a kit I could buy.

You could try PDI, they may have something like that

However , if your exhaust manifold is the same as mine , and the EGR is the same , what you can do ,I've been told , is this: the exhaust manifold is a 3 piece job. Go to a junkyard , get the rear section , and take your front section off , put the rear one in its place . No EGR leaks into your intake. -
Thanks for info! The Egr on 07 Dpf isx is on Driver side (cold side). So we did some research and found it is best to block at exhaust manifold before egr cooler, there is a clamp and flex pipe already in place there. Also at intake pipe to prevent a good flow of clean air. Gonna fabricate some pieces next week and see how it goes.

Good luck to you, I hope it works out well

When we replaced the turbo , I took a look at the EGR valve. It was closed . The way it appears to be set up , it has to be forced open , as the exhaust gases would normally be trying to force it closed. I don't know if you could get Enough pressure , from a back flow from the intake side , to force it open , against the pressure of the exhaust.
Anyone have an idea on that ?
Already had the EGR delete done , and its unplugged as well.
Any comment would be welcome .Last edited: Jan 27, 2013
