what do most of you guys talk about on the radio? Is it wrong to have a convo over the cb? I got my cdl in dec and found a cb my grandfather used to have and i have put it in my car. I am not in a truck yet due to the fact i want to finish college first. I just feel weird and dont really know what to say on the cb.
Any help would be great

No it's not wrong to have a convo on the CB but do be courteous of what channel you're on. Channel 19 is by gentlemens agreement, the "highway" channel or "truckers channel"....however some will start a convo on 19 and will proceed to tie up 19 with useless info, bickering about Obama, griping about fuel prices, etc....which is fine but if you meet someone on 19 and you want to carry on a lengthy conversation, just say to the other party you're talking with "lets go ahead and move to channel XX so we can leave 19 clear".
Most guys talk about anything and everything on the CB. Depending on who it is and where you're at on the CB. Channel 19 you'll hear people with their echos and roger beeps going, using the F word every other sentence and the N word every fourth. It gets really interesting around truck stops. Especially when you get a couple of radio rambos threatening to fight each other at the truck stop parking lot.
Move to channel 6 during skip and you'll hear a lot of high powered stations keying down over each other, and then talking rapidly like a bunch of gibberish, ending their transmissions with rapid words such as "break-break-break" or better yet..."bye-buh-buh-bye-bye-bye". (no kidding on this either)
If you have single side band, move to 38 lower side band and sometimes you can hear folks trying to work others around the world. For the most part to initiate a contact, you just key up and ask if anyone's on the air. if someone is and he wants to talk, he'll respond. Or listen in on someone elses convo and jump in between transmissions by saying "break".Voltrucker Thanks this. -
and also you have whats called local channels. in southern calif. ch. 17 is what most locals use. sometimes you can get hold of state troopers or highway patrol on ch. 19 too. some monitor that channel. i used to like to just sit and listen too all the bs

good job on the CDL and kudos for wanting to finish college. but i must warn you that your CDL will be virtually useless if you wait more than 2 or 3 months after graduating from CDL school.
