No u can only take 4 days if u earn it go home because u don't get them back, unless I run nothing but nights and I work until 8am so I don't count that day but I have a cool DM don't know know how others are but pray u don't get Romona OMG, but I take 4 full days plus the day I come home so I take 5 days never have any issues with it.
as for mentors I can only say mine was Great taught me a lot , I'm think im ready to be one I want to train not just do it for $$$$ from what I hear we have a lot of them that do that special owner ops my friend had 2 that did that to him but luckily he was a driver a few years back a did not need a lot of training.
not to different when pulling a load unless going up and down hill and shifting just got to start in a lower gear u can't take off in 4th gear with 80,000lbs hopefully u will get a good mentor and he will teach u tell him u want to get into mountains you need to be with a mentor ur first few times u can't be in 8th gear going down mts with a heavy load and u will have to learn to down shift going up mts too.

Several bad exp with her she forced me to do loads I declined even with out time to do them and tried to give me a service failor on 1 I told her I would not do because I had no trailer and only had 2 hours to find a trailer and get to Live Load with no window then to find parking. This was while being under her as a development DM and also while my perm DM while was on vacation

You should have shifting down within 2 weeks. Most of my students do. Remember, you'll be driving 6 to 11 hours a day, everyday. When you do something that often with focus, you get good at it quickly.oncnavy96 Thanks this.

ok another question, how long after finishing the 240 hours and they assign you a truck do you get by your house to load up the stuff you wont take with the trainer? I am trying to decide if I should pack everything and leave the extra stuff with a friend who live in KC.
-
As soon as you find out who your dm is, tell them to route you through where you need to get your stuff, so you can take a 10 hour break there. If you need more time than that, just put in for hometime. You can take it anywhere you want in the country.oncnavy96 Thanks this.

Ya after 240 if u get a truck after u test it which could take a few days to get 1 they can route you home for Hometime because by then u will have been out 5 to 7 weeks because most trainers careless if u get by home while with them and its good for to see if u can handle the time away from home it's a good test for u let me tell u those weeks are the hardest and the days drag if ur not used to traveling gotta get used too it the days fly by now I run 650miles easy now.I actually took a few weeks off and got stuff I needed to take care of and got married I was off almost 3 weeks they didn't have any trucks when I tested out. And just waited til I got a pass by but I had my laptop til I got by home and suffered without the rest.Tip: get u a cooler and lunch box oven at truck stop and food this will save u $100s, eating out everyday adds up quickHopefully u get a good mentor and he/she will buy u some lunch/dinner not everyday but here and there because u are making them lots of money mine did but he was a great guy too
oncnavy96 Thanks this. -
