Many will train. Haliburton , Key, Frac Tech and many others will train you. Your job will not involve that much driving. More just getting to job and then operating the unit you pull.
diamondz Thanks this. -
I did it straight out of CDL school. Generally there are more opportunities for newbies in West Texas, especially if you want to drive a vacuum truck. Plan on spending a few weeks applying and waiting for responses. Don't be too choosy about which town you want to live in at first. After a year or more experience you can be picky.
I started with Key Energy one year ago at $15/hour working 70 plus hours per week. I was bringing home $4500/month to start. I don't know of any rookie OTR job that can come close to that. -
What is your off time, 2 weeks on 2 weeks off, or is there any time off
-
Varies. TriCan work 14 on 4 off. Frac drivers get $15hr for 40. $22.50OT for 58. 98 hrs week. $50 a day for 10 hr reset. $35 per diem. Total $2500 wk before taxes. Sometimes really humping it and other times sleeping and getting paid. We work until job is done. Just spent 3 weeks on zipper frac in Cotulla. Had a couple of breakdowns and a serious acid spill so got to sit for about 60 hours loaded. Been home since Sun night. Will probably go out Fri/Sat on another job.
HeWhoMustNotBeNamed, Giggles the Original, Roadmyth and 1 other person Thank this. -
Three weeks on a zipper frac? Wow! How many ports?
-
Well 18 days. 2 wells. 36 stages each. And lots of problems. Broken manifold. Acid spill. Other broken crap. Blew some gasket or fitting one day. Heard lead driver yelling to run. Turned around and mix was shooting about 3 times higher than the wire line crane. Serious pressure on display. LOL Was OK because we were hauling out of Victoria and got to get some good sleep.
-
Sounds like fun times! 72 ports in eighteen days isn't all that bad, especially if you are having problems. We hardly ever have wireline jobs. We mainly do ball drops that average 15-20 ports. Usually takes us about 20 hours to pump the job and then we rig down and move to the next one.
