this overtime depends on how busy the day is.... for coke drivers, the more cases you got certain day, the overtime will go up that day. that is for drivers who has easy days and milk the clock on the overtime. so if you have a heavy day, it is worth to work overtime...

...i like time and half overtime better, but only hourly drivers get it.

Well after 5 months of trying to make use of my clean CDL and DAC that I've had since the CDL law came into effect back in 1990 I gave up and tried something completely different. For the last 3 months I've been working for a company out of Mn. that hired me in Fl. to collect cable boxes for a major cable company. My hours are 8am to 8 pm 3 days per week. I'm paid for every box i pick up and am able to be home every night. I basically have told every trucking company that while I still have this need to drive OTR, I must keep the roof over my head and be able to eat. So, I now drive locally in my own SUV, am home every night, and see my dispatcher once a week. My work orders are emailed to me and I'm making a helluva lot more that I ever thought I could at driving a truck. I'm able to take a shower everyday, eat at home and walk my 2 Labs every night. After 3 solid months of doing this here is what my average 3 day work week comes to,

    36 Hrs of Work
    234 miles p/w
    130 pieces picked up p/w x $11= $1430.00 p/w

Broken down here's what it looks like,

    $39.72 p/h
    $6.11 p/m

This is a very good average of my earnings per week for the last 12 weeks. And from what I've been told I could take on another route if I wanted to. Please understand, my first love is OTR driving, but as long as these companies are treating the drivers the way they are, and this industry is the way it is, I'll stay here and drive my 234 miles per week. I know that driving OTR is a way of life and I truly miss it, but I will not have my 15+ years experience count to wards nothing. Those of you willing to work for the wages that are being paid, lack of miles, and the time away from home and your loved ones just think hard about it. There are other avenues to try besides being at the mercy of these unappreciative trucking companies.

Tired to PM you JohnBoy, but I don't have enough post. So I will post it here. Like the attitude you have. If everyone would do this, the wages would have to go back up. I am resent left over of 2500 that lost job. I in the last 35 this past friday. Worked for Hadley Auto for 10 years before they loast the Ford Traffic to Jack Cooper last year to only lose it all together this past Friday, May 1st. We made upto $400 a day, home every night, if we wanted. All in a leagal proceedure. So upto a $100,000.00 year Job gone. After 12 years of this and 9 of the last Job I left for this one (That shut down this year too..Bullocks Express), I have found that the trucking Industry, is a Market for the Employer.

I am not doing it for 50+% less. I will try something else too. I wish I good PM you, I would like to know more about the Cable Box thing... Anyways, keep the attitude and hopefully more will follow..;)

Back on Topic, Coke is a Hard Job for a Older Guy looking for a New Start. Frito Lay, is on my plate and Only hoping to get a look at. Been hauling Autos for a long time, alot different from light vans, in their minds I am sure. I tried heartland since they were moving to Texas and they tuned me down cause The company listed me local.. Can you imagine that.. ;) Maybe Frito Lay might work... I am a long timer where ever I have been. Haven't looked for a job in 20 years. I left Bullocks cause hadley fell into my lap. This is all new to me...lol

Coke pays by the day, with Chinese overtime. They give you a set amount per day and once you work your 8 hours they start paying you an extra 5$ per hour. Atleast that's how it is in Texas. I'm not sure what the daily rate is but all the Coke drivers I know are making no less than 55-60k a year.

The majority of the Coke Bulk drivers here are older fellas and some of the best Drivers I have ever seen. I have never seen an ad for them anywhere. But maybe they hire from their website only. I love the term, "Chinese Overtime" LOL!
