Hey everyone I am here to ask any Volvo drivers out here about the I Shift trucks, just doing a little personal research. I have a friend who purchased a 2011 and seems to be doing well! How's the reliability of these transmissions and what kinda horsepower/torque numbers can they handle?

I ran a 2010 volvo with I-shift for 3 years around 350000 miles and hads no problems whatsoever. As to torque and horsepower I read that Volvo runs 700 hp hauling logs in Sweden with I-shifts and would not be able to do as well with a stick.
SPC WHIGHAM Thanks this. -
That's impressive! Thanks for the info, if I decide to go that route I'd be transporting peanuts more than likely. How's the powerplants Volvo offers? Because the company I'm currently with purchased right at 20 D13 trucks mostly daycabs, no problems yet.

Friend of mine has one in a 2013 Volvo he drives, he said its very nice! Shifts smooth and doesn't get confused.

The Volvo I drove had the D13 485hp.Only problem in 3 years was a dropped valve.Dealer replaced head and turbo under warranty.

Yep that's what my friend said also! He's running lighter knots out of the woods and is really impressed with the quality. Having come from the same Eaton Ultrashift like my current truck which failed him.

Any other problems with the D13? And any knowledge on the D16 because I see them for sale at the same cost as the D13 just curious?
-
We have a few o/o with D16s and they have said they are money pits.
25(2)+2 and SPC WHIGHAM Thank this. -
Yep I don't believe a money pit is where I'd wanna start, D13 seems the better choice. I really appreciate the info everyone!

On US trucks I-shift is more reliable becouse US air system pressure is lower (in EU it is 12BAR in wet tank, to get enought pressure for single axel air suspention), so no risk that when tranny pressure limiting valve fails tranny may be damaged with exessive air pressure (to hard shifting and rail may crack).
Anyway, other problems, like splitter wear, clutch problems are the same, so I'd say this tranny is reliable enought.
But I'm manual driver, becouse you can drive manual with damaged clutch, skiping faulty gears... more chance to limp homeSPC WHIGHAM Thanks this.
