I would go down to the military recruiting office and see if you can get hired with them. I know they've tightened up in the last few years but, it's worth a shot. As for companies, just be honest and ask. The worst they can say is no.

I would work on cleaning up your background. Get them charges expunged. They have programs for student loans for people in financial hardships. They even forgive some loans. Depending on the state some student loans can be dismissed in a bankruptcy even though you hear they are exempt from many sources. They'll make you pay like 10% of your income for 10 years and then dismiss the balance. Anything is better than let it haunt you. You have to start showing some responsibility. Life isn't one big party you just enjoy day by day. You have to plan and prepare. With hard work comes many satisfying rewards. You chose your path. Look at Judge Mathis on TV. He went from a felon to a judge in 15 years. If he can do that anyone can. :)

You can't sit back and expect things to happen. You have to make them happen. They don't happen overnight either.

Trucking isn't your only option. Call union halls and see if they offer any apprenticeships which is paid training. The military will make a man out of you and give you a career, but you have to clean up your background first. Consider moving closer to a big town where there are job opportunities. You can get a warehouse job while you clean up your background and get a feel for the industry at the same time.

I am not a legal expert but I believe that if you made a "mistake" when you are young a judge will expunge that record but after you get into more trouble following that mistake judges are less likely to expunge charges. In a judges eyes you may have gone from making a "mistake" to having a pattern of bad behavior and it becomes more difficult to convince a judge to expunge your record. If it is possible you might need a decent lawyer and a sizable retainer to get it to happen.
Trucking companies can afford to be picky and with the industry becoming more and more regulated every time a congress gets together it gets tougher to be hired with a record. Add in employment gaps and credit problems you might have enough red flags for companies to pass. Keep in mind the companies that offer school are not doing it for fre. The bill is deferred and paid through a period of service to the company. If you quit before that time frame you would owe the cost of school. So if you are a credit risk they know they can not recoup that cost so they pass on hiring you.

I dont think people are being hard on you just to be jerks they are just pointing out the harsh reality you are facing. The industry is distancing itself from the old image of rouge truckers tearing up the interstate highways and becoming more and more geared towrds professionalism. You might have to do the same thing before youll be hired on somewhere. Distance yourself from the charges, establish a work history somewhere, anywhere you can find work. Clear your credit up and stay out of trouble for a reasonable period of time and you will see more doors open in the trucking industry. Its not impossible it just takes time.

The U.S. military quit taking people with records with the drawdown. The French Foreign Legion will, if one can has the funds to get to France. www.legion-recrute.com They train truck drivers for their motor pool and you will probably end up driving in Mali or Algeria, is my guess. Hey, I wouldn't mind raising my children in a little town in France.

    Like others mentioned..

Military (with waivers) will take you..tough being away from your family, but you will be providing an income, medical and dental insurance AND they may pay part of your student loans.

    good luck

Very few people want to migrate these days. They just want to stay in one place and play the "poor me" game. Theirs lot's of jobs of all types across the country. If illegals (oh wait, "documented workers") can find work in the fields or restaurants, so can legal citizens.

And nobody can give me crap for what I just said neither. I can't find a descent job in Idaho where i live and that's why I work for a company based in SoCal working both on the road and in the office.

You're exactly right. I will go even further and say, people should look globally for work. You go where the work is. Use it for a learning experience for the family and a job experience.

the FFL will more than likely not take the OP... they have extensive Interpol background checks and anything but minor offenses will disqualify. Not to mention the whole process is extremely taxing with many interviews, personality tests, etc. Not for the faint of heart or most Americans as they have an overwhelming sense of self entitlement. The whole time I was there, I came across 8 from the U.S., mostly East European these days.

To the OP...keep on trying, but the people have given leads as to companies that may work, apply...apply...apply.
