This rarely happens but when it does I get upset. I still remain professional and respectful to the shippers when this happens, but inside I am mad. I have a three stop multi load that is scheduled closely together. I made it to my first stop last night, this place opens at 5 AM which was the time of my appointment. The shipper knocked on my door right when they opened and told me to back into a door. Now this is what gets me upset.... I am the first in the door, my appointment time is scheduled to be first, yet they haven't even opened the dock door to my truck WHILE I see six other trucks from other companies come and get unloaded and leave.

I get upset as it is obvious that they are skipping over my truck because how can I sit in the door for hours while other truckers come and go within an hour after I sat there all morning in a door when my appointment was hours earlier? I went inside and girl in the office was using the computer to browse iPads on the internet. She asked one of the lumpers if they would buy the iPad for her while I was waiting to speak to her. I can see if I was getting loaded and they were waiting for the product, but I am here just to drop off a few pallets and leave and they have me here all day while other trucks are getting taken care of. Now I am late to all of my other stops and will probably lose my preplan.

As long as you/truck drivers keep hauling their crap and putting up with their crap there's NO reason for a shipper or consignee to change their business practices.

Some customers unload the most needed products first, regardless of appointment times. They don't really care about the other stops on your truck or your pre-plan. Let your company know whats going on so that they can be prepared for the change of plans.

Record time-IN and time-OUT on your copy of the bills. Your logs will back you up. Like was said above...call your company and let them deal with it.

Ralph,,,he hauls what they tell him to, where they tell him to, when they tell him to. He's a company driver and can't make those kinda choices.
It's the companys that need to quit hauling that "crap" as ya put it.

If the shipper had to come out and knock on your door to rouse you out, you're already too "late". Those trucks that got unloaded in front of you were in line at the receiving desk with their papers while you were snoozing. They probably scheduled 6 trucks for 05:00. Have a 05:00? Get up at 04:30 and wait at the receiving door if you're pressed for time and have subsequent drops/appointments that day.

Maybe ths is not exactly what happened, but we can tell the slackers in this industry who have a 06:00 appointment, and their staring at themselves in the mirror in the staging lot trying to wake up at 06:10 ... and these are often the same ones who wonder why they can't make money.

This is why I unload my own truck whenever it's possible. Obviously I can't always move 2200 lb pallets of pickles or canned goods with a manual pallet jack, but I will unload myself whenever possible.

Then QUIT working for folks that haul crap freight OR work for carriers that pay a living wage and then you don't care IF/WHEN you get dicked around @ a dock.
