If you want to communicate to home, take a look at SPOT. Neat and works anywhere for fairly cheap if you are going from US-CN. I ran CO in the winter for years and it was -30 at times. With the whole front covered on an International cabover, you could'nt keep warm and would get vapor out of the stacks all the way to the back of the trailer. Fun times, getting out to pee and having the sound of a million frozen BBs rolling by.

You can loook up CN regs for foods. You're allowed to take meat and some frozen stuff in for personal use and don't try taking a Potato. They think you'll make a monster potato head and eat them or something. Anyway, I have studied the regs and I'm pulling a 31 ft Arctic Fox up in Sept from VA. You can even carry firearms if properly permitted and meeting their regs.

Have a copy of Schedule 1 - Truck, Tractor & Trailer on hand while in Canada. Apply for and have your BC Insurance Filing if and when traveling through British Columbia. Know the Canadian HOS. A GPS that you can switch to Kilometers is handy. If you are a flatbedder, find your height and convert it to meters. Write this number down and have it handy to refer to whenever overpass heights are given.
