I think the main issue with leasing is guys jumping into it with barely a clue on the industry itself, much less the ins and outs of truck ownership.

What Ricotta said? It should not be a requirement but should be pointed out that one should think if they can handle such a venture IF they do not have family and friends scattered and if they have centralized family/friends if they can stick it out not seeing them often. imho

I don't even know if he was referencing my post, the OP, or something else entirely.

Regardless, trucking probably isn't the best option for people with families or other local commitments.

I love my company and how they handle this...Just today, I call in for load and given a choice, Houston, with the "possibility"(when they say that, I assume it's a probability!) of a day sitting due to "softness" or Nashua, NH with a return trip ready and waiting...Of course I chose Houston.....NOT!

Much can be said for where you live and if this will work out for you as well..If you live in the expensive northeast or Cali, living on the first year or two's pay could be a struggle...Here in KY, we were able to bank money during my first year solely due to low cost of living...It has to be considered...$44k to start in KY is much different than CA, NY or some other states...

Then again, the sage advice of this thread will be buried among the other thousands of similar posts and the new guys will all be asking the same questions over and over again on this forum instead of just reading and researching what's already here ;-)

Let's say somebody already have the 20k saved before become a driver, would it be a good idea to go ahead and buy a truck?

That sounds like a good way to go into massive debt and possibly lose your CDL because you don't know what you're doing.
