Starting July 1, with the new requirement to take the 30 minute rest break at or before 8 hours of driving....
You're better off just doing an 8-2 split, something that most drivers have been encouraged not to do, since it is confusing. However, if you take a full 10 hour break, in effect, you'll be punished by having o take another 30 minute break, so now you're encouraged to do something you were encouraged not to do.
It is obvious they haven't been making enough revenue on HOS violations, so more confusion is their modus operindi to make you screw up.

As far as only being able to take one 34 hour reset every seven days, if you draw out some logs or use your calculator, you'll see that this ploy catches up with you on week two, if you're a productive trucker. Basically, you'll taking something closer to a 48 hour break.

At least we kept the 11th hour.

What these idiots don't realize, is that they're simply making it more and more expensive to bring products to market. I don't think it will be long before we're all running team, or relaying loads in day cabs like UPS, YR, etc.

I'm thinking it goes like this: if I drive for 6 hours of my 11..I go in the sleeper for 8 hrs..I can then drive my other five..but at the end of that 5 I have to go in the sleeper 2 hours..

    Not sure though.

8-2 split......you can drive your full 11 if you want. Then you have to take your 10 hr break. You may go into the sleeper berth for 8 hrs then get up and drive to consignee and then you HAVE to be in the sleeper berth for 2 more hrs. But as I recall, whatever I drove in between the 8 & 2 those hrs came off of my next days drive time. And while you are driving, if you are on Elogs, it will show you as driving in the negative until that 2 hr sleeper berth is up. Then everything will balance out.

The regulation is: "...driving is not permitted if more than 8 hours have passed since the end of the driver's last off-duty or sleeper-berth period of at least 30 minutes."

All you gotta do is take a 30 minute break somewhere in the middle of your 11 hours of driving! How tough is that? Just make sure you do not have more than an 8 hour stretch of driving before or after the break, and you are good!

Don't forget the new rule about the 34 hr break and when you can use it. 168 hrs of consecative on and off duty hrs after the two times you must pass first.
And he or she must indicate in the Remarks section of the record of duty status which such off-duty period is being used to restart the calculation on the log book.

I wonder how many of the drivers complaining bout having to take the 30 min break would work a regular job where they were told they had to work 11 straight hours w/out a break?? Or having to work a 70 hour week-- w/out overtime?? What would u say to that??? IMHO its all much to do about nothing--although im sure someone will tell me how wrong I am--
Besides i am thoroughly convinced many if not all of these will never c the lite of day--look how long its been going on--2 many lawyers on both sides making way too much money off all this and they KNOW just which federal judges in each district to go to get yet another injunction--to keep them from going into effect for a few hundred more billable hours---call me jaded:D
    Just my $.02
