I get paid to tarp. They are my tarps and I do not unroll them for free.
Last tarp ld. I had in Dec. took 4 machinery tarps to cover the ld. I got 800.00 to tarp it.
New agent did not put in any tarp fees, Was told no tarp. Then find out it had to be tarped. Got the main office invloved.. Customer gladly paid the fee, seeing how they insured the ld. for 1 million dollars..

You could pay some of them $500 to throw 2 tarps, and they would still whine about it!
Think thats why they made trailers with doors on them....just sayin':biggrin_25521:

    i wouldn't complain about $500.

but i stay in flatbed. i'm working for a company that has curtains. not only will i not have to spend so much time working for free. i won't have to climb some of them loads that require a ladder. specially when the shipper has signs that say NO TARPING IN THE YARD. and then have to walk on the load that is paper wrapped and when wet. GETS VERY SLICK.

If I tarp stuff, it's normally a machine. The places are very helpful where that is concerned.
Last place left 2 guys there while we finished tarping the 2nd load...until @8pm!
Easy when it's big stuff though. No help, no tarp!

Guess you don't do a pre trip either?

See how long you have a job if you damage freight or get fined for improper securement or drop something off the trailer because you didn't take the time to do it right. Then you'll see what you get paid to do.

I had a load of hay recently. Shipper and broker both said "naw, you don't really need to tarp it unless weather gets bad". I did, weather didn't get bad, but I am glad I did. That farmer said he was billed for tarping, and would have rejected it if I hadn't. My company paid me to tarp it too, so no problem. Sometimes, money or not, you just get the feeling that tarping is the right thing to do. The farmer I took it to never mentioned tarping when I called him for delivery arrangements....but I still felt I should. And OP, I think you are trying to be fair, but I'd recommend simplifying it a bit more....or your payroll staff, even if that is just you, will hate you. Maybe 30 to tarp or untarp a lumber tarped load. 20 for either end of a steel tarp load. And 10 for either end of a smoke tarp load. Give or take a little depending on how generous you are.

most of the tarped loads i deliver. don't know why it's tarped. they mostly sit out on the ground with no roof. and most times it's picked up all wet and crap.

i've even had some receivers say. I'M NOT PAYING FOR THAT TARP. i'm just driver. and i was told to tarp. don't look at me.
