Just an FYI if you are like me and have been holding off on doing a Windows 8 upgrade thus far.

After today the price goes from $39.99 to $199.99 (for the Pro Version) and $119.99 for the normal version.

You can also buy and download the installer to a DVD or flash drive and not actually have to install it now.

    CNET link for info: http://news.cnet.com/8301-10805_3-5...windows-8-upgrade-now/?tag=nl.e404&s_cid=e404

Disclaimer: I have no dog in the hunt whatsoever on this. I just know that eventually I'm going to upgrade at least one computer to Win 8 and I only want to pay $40 bucks for it.

cheapestr bestbuy lists is $70. and it's an upgrade kit. where you seeing for $40.

on a side note. you can buy system builders usually $100 cheaper then retail. system builders are full fledged instalations that don't come with packaging or tech support.

i never do upgrades. they dont work as good as a full fledged clean installation.

and if you boughrt a pc with win7. you're actually eligible for $14.99. which expires TODAY.

    I think win7 is ok.

Maybe in 10-15 years, I'll upgrade again.

I did not upgrade to Vista until about 3 years ago. Will be a very long time before I see Windows 8.

From what I've heard there is a very sharp learning curve going from 7 to 8. Wife has 7 on her puter but I'm still on Vista ... if it ain't broke .... why fix it?

Lol this sounds like me back in the day, refusing to give up on DOS to go to that toy Windows 3.1, to ffunny. I d\l'd the 8 and will certainly give it a look for that kind of money. Good post Dieselboss.

My wife gave me a new laptop for Christmas that has windows 8 on it. I hated it at first but it is growing on me. It boots up much faster than my 5 year old Vista machine. Took a while to figure out where some stuff was relocated. There is a desktop tab on the home screen that gets you to a standard computer look. My machine does not have a touchscreen so the tablet like home page doesn't get used much.

if you put vista on your 8 machine it would boot up faster on that machine also. becuase it's a faster machine. quad cores now vs. single core. and quadruple the memory these days.

i have yet to see a operating system boot up faster then another. when i tried 8 beta. it was slower then 7. on the same machine.

the operating system itself takes up 8 times more hard drive space then vista.
