Well, today I got my schooling & skills tested. I was driving northbound on a 2 lane highway in Nebraska today, with an empty trailer, on snow, with a 40 mph crosswind. Let me tell ya, trailers DO slide sideways! Came out from behind a bank of trees & wham! Trailer tandems were on the shoulder while the tractor was still in drive lane. Didnt panic, just eased down the speed & got er back in line. Got on I 80 & hit the 1st rest area I came to & parked for a couple minutes to change my underwear, say a prayer & have a smoke. Good times lemme tell ya!!!!
Nerve wracking trip!

Should have came across Wyoming with me yesterday on I 80, 70 mph cross winds and a 53 foot box and only 18k inside.
Good times!mamamullins Thanks this. -
If you still had that open deck that wouldnt of been such a big deal
aiwiron and bullhaulerswife Thank this. -

I wouldn't have been with you.
I've shut down for the day with the same weight but only 55+ MPH winds.
Too many trucks go in the ditch in that section of highway because the driver wants to 'brave it out'.
And mt on snow with 40 MPH winds?
I would have chosen a different day to drive.
You may get lucky several times, but that one time you don't just might kill you. -
Them side ditches are good for controlling jackknifes.

Wind was about 50 mph here yesterday.aiwiron Thanks this. -
I had 26k in the box and had fun with that windstorm that hit Texas on Tuesday. No snow thank God.

It was pretty crazy up there on Elk Mountain. I wouldn't of done it with 18k though, grossing 75k was hairy enough.
I'm just glad I didn't have the load I came across there last week with. Had 100 lbs load, two whole boxes for 2000 miles. They had 50 mph winds with that one up there and I took the way around to Walcott.aiwiron Thanks this. -
unfortunatly most of humanity including myself only learns from the painful lessons
gee this didnt work out well maybe i better do it different next time
even quitting drinking 12 years ago wasnt because i woke up one day and said
i feel so good today i think i will quit drinking
i think there was a police report and such involved
so unless you drive in some bad stuff you never know what bad stuff is
glad to see my next trip has me Fla bound out of the frozen tundra of Iowa
