My question is how many drivers pulling vans even know what a D-ring is and what its for, let alone how to use it or a strap...?

The point of all this right here.^^^^^^^

A D ring is just that a ring that is secured to the trailer and is used to secure a load with. In essence they are anchor points for tiedowns.

Loaded tractors in baltimore this week. The flat bed boys were doing a good job of securement and being inspected before getting released. A door slammer loaded and I never saw a strap, closed the doors and was released. He only had 40 hp tractors buthe had 53 ft of them. We joked that he'd need an extra piece of foam rubber behind his seat but you could tell that it didn't sit well with the FB drivers. Especially the guy loading a line of smaller 25hp tractors and about 20 chains to secure them.
I was thinking about this for quite a while and when I got up by Corning it was foggy and #### happened in front of me causing me to have to brake pretty hard. Hard enough that I pulled over and rechecked my securement just to be safe. I'm #### sure that door slammmer would have had run away tractors in the same situation. Don't the bears check this ####

The van actually works out great. It's lined front to back with embedded flip up/ hide down tie down points every 2ft. The front does house all straps and corner protectors. I've used them to transport delicate electronic machinery, and for securing border shipments of steel coils. Yeah, the coils are palletted , but you can't drive a fork into the side of the load, or hoist it out from the top. The trailer has an undercarriage similar to a flatbed, and the sidewalls rise an extra 10 inches with plate aluminum for reinforcement. The only real issue with these are the use of trailer tails and dumb super singles. It's actually impressive to use these because you can load flat freight, van, or specialized. Just saying

this is totally not an even comparison....they lay the coils down and put them on a pallet and act like the trailer is revolutionary......if they put that same load on a f flatbed guess what he could throw strap too!!!!. they show a standard chain through flatbedder tossing chains like its the same ...total crap comparison. If they want it to be real easy lay those coils like they did, put on pallets, like they did, then seal them in that white plastic that aircraft facilities use. boom, two strap and no tarp.
