And how much do they pay the professional for this extra time?
-
Part of the job, just a burden we must carry.

You don't ask them how many pallets, how heavy is each (roughly), then tell him how to load it? Sometimes they will tell you how they are going to do it but it's your load now and guess who pays the fine. If they don't want to do it your way then ask for his supervisor.MNdriver Thanks this.

Professionals get payed.. this is the point.

I don't seem to have any problem loading legal. In the 21 years I've been driving I've never heard of a company paying overweigh tickets though. I got one that cost me a bit over $400 an that will be the last one. With the company I work for now, they pay the cat scale and if it's unable to pull down the road legal they pay miles for going back to reload and a bit of hourly pay as well until it's legal. The FMCSA puts the responsibility on the driver to ensure the load is legal to pull an the papers are right. We all know that! So again I say "you're a professional driver... Act like one"!

I pull a lot of preloaded 53' trailers with over 45k in them and do not have a hard time getting the axle weights set right. You need to watch your length from the kingpin though too. If it's too stretched out to satisfy axel weight you're still illegal under the bridge law. I've never had that problem either.

A $44 overweight ticket???
Why wouldnt you all be way over all the time? Im guessing that was a typo. Had to be $400 right? The cheapest overweight ticket I ever had in California was $700, I wasnt over gross. I just couldnt move the tractor on my truck foreword and had a heavy 8 axle mobile home on back. 35,400 on drivers and 79,300 gross. Still worth it but if I was getting $44 tickets I would never worry about weight.
