Yes, I do know how to trip plan. Having to write EVERYTHING down on a notebook, bc the driver tech box does not allow u to read anything on it while the truck is moving is even more dangerous. It's having to reach for ur notebook, turn on a light, if at night, etc. Also, messages will come in, but u can't read them. Then u worry if it's something important or not. So, u either pull off the road (not the best thing to do) or wait an hr. or 2 to reach a trk. stop or rest area just to read that message. It's also impossible with that whole design to plan ur hrs. out. I was used to receiving complete info for the next trip b4 the current one even delivered. AND, while driving, and also able to pull up both mine and my co-driver's hrs. to plan the next trip. U can't even see the other driver's info until u log completely off & then log them on. Oh, btw, I HAVE called driver support on numerous occasions (since this happens so frequently), get set up w/a temporary mailbox, then it goes out. Like right now. Called 2 days ago & the only person who could do that is out until 2moro. Convenient.
We do not have haz-mat, but have been considering it. But, on that note, there is a team couple (driving for USX) in a truck right beside us who DO have haz-mat, and they r in the same boat as we are right now.
Although I have been self employed w/my own businesses for most of my life, and understand what managers and business owners deal with, this is ridiculous. Y do they constantly keep hiring new drivers when there isn't enough work to go around already? I don't expect any special treatment and am fully capable of being a number & just doing my job well. Just give me the job to do.
Ah, almost forgot. I was hauling for England last year at this time & hardly had time to breathe, there was so much freight. I don't buy into that "slow time of the year" crap. It's b4 Christmas, for Christ's sake! Of COURSE there should b tons of freight!

they put on his dac he was fired, i forgot their reason, but it screwed him up for a while -
1st you company drivers have been slow THIS year, as a company team we had weeks with only 1800 miles... not having has-mat means you can't pull loads like fedex and that will hurt your miles...... it also cost you 04 cpm not having it......you've been driving less than 2 years and this is only your 2nd winter.... you realy have a lot to learn about when things slow down, for me i have 2 weeks 3x a year and one month (dec 20-jan 28) that i sit home because i have NO FRIGHT and yes i have usx on the side of my truck
about massages on the driver tech stop when you want and read them 1-3hr's if it's important they will learn to call.... if they say anything just tell them that by company policy you can only stop in a safe location to read them and you couldn't fine one..... their rule so use it when you can
how is looking at a note pad more dangerous than looking at a computer screen and don't say it's because you have to turn on the dome light....... as a team you should always know what hours each of you have all the time.... i always know who much i have used and how much my codriver has used before we start driving each day.... if i don't then how can we plan 3 days out -
It's more dangerous holding a notebook w/one hand & trying to keep ur place on it looking back & forth off the road. But that's just 1 example of the pain in the ##### of not being able to access any info while driving. And there r times when my co-driver stops early during his night shift bc he just can't stay awake any longer, I wake up, get in the driver's seat and have no idea later on how many hrs. til his time resets, etc.. It's difficult to constantly know what each other's hrs. are. And that doesn't explain y they can't give all info. on the next trip until u send an empty call. Can't plan like that.
I'm usually not one to complain. I can adjust to just about anything & make it work, which shows what a problem this co. has, that I AM complaining. And they're easy fixes.
Plus, I still haven't heard an explanation for y they keep hiring. Maybe if they kept us all running, there wouldn't b such a high turnover? -
just because you get a preplan dosent mean your truck will be the one that gets it..... and your fm has nothing to do with it.. the load planner is looking for trucks to take loads so you get the pre plan but when you get mt another truck maybe closer or got mt before you do that is why you can't get the load info untill after you are mt because until you get the load info it's not your load......
can't look at a note pad when driving....... gee when did we ever do before GPS systems telling us when to turn......
as to why they hire so many drivers... has something to do with a turnover rate of 100 percent so with 6,000 trucks they need to hire 6,000 driver's a year if they didn't hire that many driver they would have trucks sitting with no drivers and they couldn't cover the loads they have... and just because you are sitting doesn't mean that 700 miles away they have the drivers they need to cover their loads....... -
Well, since u explained the preplan system, I like it even less. And since holding a cell phone is considered so dangerous, I can't imagine the DOT would think holding and reading a notebook would b any less. And all this that has been said may have something to do with the 100% turnover rate. Send me that 700 miles. I'll pick up that load. These wasted days of my life away from my family w/no pay are days of my life I'll never get back.

Anyone know of what the 'per diem' rate is at USXpress? And, can one opt out of it? I looked on the website and it says 'per diem', tho doesn't of course/why not? give the amount. Is it like .10cpm per diem? I tell ya, per diem isn't the best way to go to maximize for Social Security, I do know that. And for loans etc, it shows you actually make less than you actually do in the year. And you pay taxes on it too,,,probably a couple grand in a year. I don't have much choice tho, to go with a 'per diem' company at this point. Anyway, I think I heard her say it was around .10 cpm. thx in adv.

I always ignored my qualcomm when driving. If it beeped so what? If the company needed to tell me something they have my cellphone number otherwise it can wait until I stop.
