I need help from all you floaters my trainer would not tell me. How do you float dem there gearz? I can easily float between 1-5 but the high speed gearz are the ones I have trouble with. I cant pull out smoothly or slide it in smoothly, I always grind them. How do I work the accelerater? Do I change at the same RPM's as double clucthing? Somebody please help me I feel like a virgin, double clutchin!

I think most companies want you to double clutch anyway.
-
alot of it is feel, you can shift same time as normal
just do the same as double clutchin w/o touchin the clutch
let the RPMs fall about 400 rpm and wham your in
like i go up to 1800ish and let it fall back to 1400, when i see the needle atop the 15 mark and go ahead and slide it in, because the 2 tenths it took me to think it gos right in
yourll pick it up, for about the last 7-8 months ive been driving im getting the hang of it, i hardly touch the clucth except for stop lights
yourll get practice practice practice

I m sure they do. I dont want to double clutch. I already mastered it and I want to move on to floatin. Double Clutchin is for bumz! LOL I know 80% of the guys thats use this forum know how to float. Its just a matter of time before get the info I need!

I just raise it up to the same rpm's that would use to double clutch, let off the fuel and shift the same way as I do when I dbl clutch and it goes right in. I do it the same way for every gear. Works perfectly for me when shifting up or down.
So do it the same way except don't use the clutch....you'll get the feel for it. Just don't force it or you'll butterfly your drive line, if you are grinding then you don't have the rpms right. -
Thanks Harrison, I tried that and I dont know, it may be my truck. I let it drop down to 1400 and I cant pull it out. The only time I can get it to come out is if I accelerate back to 1800. I even tried letting her drop down to 1200 from 1500 still cant pull it out. Thats why I was wondering, are you supposed to tap the fuel peddle? When I float 1-5 its butter. Do you float 6-10 any different, beside the RPM's? And by the way for safety, I only do this on a wide open FLAT interstate, I am not trying to cause an accident. I dont work for SWIFT so dont worry, I wont try this on the Grapevine! LOL

If you dont want to double clutch thats fine. But if a company wants you to and they have a censor on their truck like transport america, then you will or they will know about it.Double clutching isnt for bums, its for people who do it right. There is some post on here about floating gears.I know there are alot of guys who do it,but there is also alot of guys who wouldnt do it if they owned their own truck also.Alot of guys dont recomend it.

Thanks Truckin916, I guess I just got to practice. I got Fam out there in the 916. They used to stay off Tamochanter right off Florin Rd. They had went to Luther Burbank HS. I stay out in Atlanta . It was just nice seeing 916, I dont get out west much. Be safe.

you mean to tell me that transport america makes it mandatory to use a clutch?????????

i float all of my gears, trust me yourll pick it up

If you have a Rockwell transmission I've found them to be more stubborn about floating gears than a Fuller. Keep trying and you'll get the hang of it. If it grinds don't force it, use the clutch. When you downshift let it go into neutral then rev the engine while applying a little pressure to the gear stick and it should suck it right into gear. Be patient and don't tear up a transmission just so you can say I don't need the clutch. I've also seen a few newbs who try to shift with the jake on. It won't work.
