When the selective service/draft ended, so did most of the rules that allowed felons to enter the military. Recruiters at that time could legally hang around in court rooms getting recruits when the judge would offer many felons a choice of prison or military. Back then even if a prospective recruit could not get in because of low test scores or felony convictions, he simply went to the draft board and volunteered to be drafted and boom, he was accepted, bypassing the recruiting process and all those cumberson rules. When the draft ended, a recruiter could be court-martialed for getting recruits in court rooms, and on each new recruit the recruiter had to sign a form that he didn't get the new guy from a courtroom. Some waivers have been given since then, but it's rare. Many uninformed, think they can simply walk into any recruiting office and just sign up; many get a rude awakening.

The rude awakening I got was when I signed on the dotted line and 2 days later was at Ft. Jackson getting a buzzcutChinatown Thanks this.

When your applying for a trucking job, your DD214 doesn't equate to your CDL. The CDL actually shows that you are properly licensed to do the job. Your DD214 shows you served but has no bearing on whether you can drive a truck.
Why would you carry your DD214 around? I mean seriously? I spent 5 yrs in the Marine Corps, love my Corps and miss it (almost) everyday, but I don't feel a need to bring my DD214 everywhere or tell everyone out there that I was a Marine. At most, I have my Marines baseball cap that I wear on occasion.snowman01 Thanks this. -
You got one thing right . A CDL shows you are properly licensed . That's all it means . It gives no indication of ability . A DD214 could show a transport driver MOS

I'm starting to think this thread has been beaten into a dead horse.

How about a "dead donkey"....as in a dead donkey on 2/14....or DD214.
Let it go 'til tomorrow at least! -
Some CDL mill grads wave their CDL around worse than he waves his DD214 around .
Big deal . Did you ever hear of a CDL mill failing anyone ? No , take their money and let the carrier weed out the dead wood at orientation .
