You were in the shop to fix oil leak. Mechanic most likely had to drop coolant level for repairs on oil leak and refilled to a different level. If it is only overfull by 1 in. in tank, it will blow out the excess and seek its own level.

Oil usage can be caused by a lot of things, sometimes the dipstick is just not calibrated properly. If it is over filled it will pressurise the crankcase and blow it out or burn it.
Not every problem is a major problem.
The coolant level stick a screw driver in it and see if it has oil on it, if not do not worry be sure the rad cap is in good shape -
when i was driving the level was up when the engine was cold and after the driving was the same the level was to high.only my engine was running very good and my mpg was the same good,i have to see how is when i pick up my truck(NOW THE SHOP FIX MY OILLEAKING) maybe thursday or friday.
