So that's what a sleep abnea test in detail is huh.Sounds like alot of extra money for the medical field then anything else. They can give all the sleep test they want but that's not going to limit the safety risk to driving. So they measure your neck, and belt size andif it's does'nt meet their standards you have to take a sleep abnea test?
-
There are 4 new standards , this is info from these doctors so if it's not right PLEASE Let me know .
The standards are ;
1 Belt line more than 36 inches
2 Neck measurement more than 17 inches
3 Body mass index
4 Blood pressure meds
Any one of the 4 can trip the sleep test . -
I am not sure who you are working for but seriously I recommend you get away from what ever mega-carrier it is and find another company to work for.
I have been on the FMCSA website for the last half hour. Check it out your self

there is NO federal regulation for any sleep apnea requirement. Hook up with a smaller carrier go back to the doc in a box get your med card go back to work. -

They sell Blank Medical Cards at the truckstops........................
Although some states are now calling the doctor listed on the card

These are the rules that are being used against me and I believe every other driver before long . These are pretty broad and loosely worded to cover what I'm in the middle of . A lawyer could have a field day with this .

Are You At Risk for Sleep Apnea?
Sleep apnea occurs in all age groups and both sexes, but there are certain factors that put you at higher risk:
- A family history of sleep apnea
- Being overweight
- A large neck size (17 inches or greater for men, 16 inches or greater for women)
- Being age 40 or older
- Having a small upper airway
- Having a recessed chin, small jaw or a large overbite
- Smoking and alcohol use
- Ethnicity
What should a CMV driver do after learning that they have sleep apnea?
Each state sets its own medical standards for driving a commercial motor vehicle in intrastate commerce. Many States have adopted the medical regulations found under Section 391.41(b)(5) of the FMCSRs and have determined that sleep apnea is a disqualifying condition. Each State has the jurisdictional authority to suspend a CDL if a person has sleep apnea. Medical examiners and CMV drivers should check with their Department of Motor Vehicles for more information about medical standards in their State.
What level of sleep apnea (mild, moderate, severe) disqualifies a CMV driver?
The disqualifying level of sleep apnea is moderate to severe, which interferes with safe driving. The medical examiner must qualify and determine a driver's medical fitness for duty.
What are the obligations of a motor carrier concerning an employee with sleep apnea?
A motor carrier may not require or permit a driver to operate a CMV if the driver has a condition, including sleep apnea, that would affect his or her ability to safely operate the vehicle.Last edited: Feb 16, 2013

Also there are sleep studies out there that let you sleep in the truck or at home with a vest and O2 monitor on your finger. They are not as good as the full blown lab but much cheaper.
Its not a short term solution but I suggest that you continue using your machine until you get above the percentage of use threshold, then get a letter from your doc and a printout from the machine before heading to the DOT doc.48Packard Thanks this. -
