The dead horse thing wasn't directed at you at all, sorry if it came out that way. It's all these drug threads repeated every couple of weeks. To me it seemed like the OP was just looking for a loophole. If these people would spend 5 minutes searching the boards they would have their answer. Usually I can ignore it, but when cancer was brought into it, it got under my skin a little bit.

I'm glad to hear you are doing well. I will keep you in my prayers. It's nice to hear from someone who is beating cancer. I wish you all the best.

I know exactly where you're coming from, Justmom! This is why I posted my original response - just because you have cancer doesn't mean you should use it as an excuse to abuse the system. In my opinion, it ranks up there with the whole "race card" response - it doesn't matter one way or the other. If a person doesn't have the qualifications, education, experience, etc. in that field of work or the ability to adhere to local/state/federal law regulations because of this, that or the other, they shouldn't be in that job period.

I get so tired of hearing some say, "well, I have a medical condition and I need to take this drug or that drug and the laws/rules have to change because..... blah blah blah...". No, some industries - like truck driving - have rules & laws in place to protect the majority. I don't want to share the road with a massive 18-wheeler with a driver high on drugs/Rx's because that driver feels it's their right to do so. I take a lot of medications right now - and some of my pain medications state right on the Rx bottle "Do NOT operate machinery/vehicles while taking this drug". Just because my doctor prescribed these medications and they are legal to take, they are NOT legal to take if it impairs my ability to drive & maintain a vehicle.

I'm lucky in a sense, because my career can be adapted slightly to accommodate my medical condition and prescribed medications without impacting my (then) colleagues or putting anyone else around me in danger.

just my .02: My wife (acupuncturist) is currently treating 2 clients going thru cancer chemo for chemo/radiation treatment induced nausea. One had been using low dose medical marijuana and the other not. Both have reported to her that their nausea has been greatly reduced or eliminated by twice-weekly treatments. One has refered a couple of VA clients to her who had no idea that such treatments existed. I know several Viet/Panama era vets who use for the same reasons, and at least one who uses to cope, however poorly, with SEVERE PTSD. Pretty sure he would be institutionalized if he wasn't.
On the other hand, I would never have flown on a helo that I was certain was worked on by anyone under the influence, and would be really leery about climbing onto or into any piece of equipment under the same circumstances today. Never did go that way during my service, and have been clean and sober for +19 years now. The law is the law, and thats how I roll. But I can, under CERTAIN circumstances, empathise with those who make other choices. Haven't had to go there yet, so I can't say for 100% what I would or wouldn't do under those circumstances. Enough out of me

I am personally sick of the constant debate about pot. I have had 2 family members pass from cancer and both used pot and it did help them a great deal. I have an aunt that has MS and uses pot, she can barely walk. These are all justifiable reasons to use. I also would not see any of them driving a rig in their condition more or less while smoking the reefer.

I have smoked it when I was younger and I have had friends who smoked it, I have know cops, firefighters, nurses, truck drivers and many other professional educated working people that use it responsibly on their own time, not while at work. These people are not endangering anyone's life if they decide to make responsible adult decisions on their off time. These are not brain dead idiots, they are normal people. I haven't smoked in a very long time and that is a personal choice but I really do believe that people have a major stick up their ### over it.

I agree driving while intoxicated on any drug including alcohol is wrong and dangerous as well as breaking the trust of the general public that expects us to be professional safe drivers. I have knows a lot of people that have died either as a result from bad choices while under the influence of alcohol or from alcohol itself. I still have yet to find anyone who has died directly from the use of pot. If people are responsible with their decisions and use in their free time then what ever. So much time and money is wasted in courts and jails over nothing. The major drug dealers are the big pharma anyways, if anything we should be putting those money grubbing scum bags in jail. Same with the FDA, they are all in bed with each other.

Me thinks the original post regarding cancer patients/pot and cdl's was just someone screwing with the blog. Ask stupid question...sit back and watch the reaction.

Marijuana has no medical value to it whatsoever. It has a placebo effect, meaning if you were to drink coca-cola instead thinking it would help cure you, it would.

Anyway, the OP doesn't care about your or my opinion of the usage of medical marijuana. They wanted to know if it was legal to drive a CMV. Short answer is no, you cannot. You actually cannot legally drive anything while under the influence of a controlled substance.

its pretty much either give up the cannabis or the truck job your choice. Though there are ways to pass the drug test in my opinion your better off clean. its just not worth all the worrys and sooner or later you will get caught off gaurd and its bye bye to your career for 2 to 5 years depending on the company your applying to. If you were to be in an accident where people were hurt or killed you woulnt have to spend the rest of your life wondering if you had been clean if the outcome might of been different.
