Thank you! Well actually I live about an hour south of Dallas, so I might be a bit over 50 miles. right now I am trying to come up with a steady work history. I have gaps because the economy has been horrid. I hope they will accept that! Thank you for the information on FFE!

I had plenty of gaps to just tell that to the recruiter upfront and you will be ok..with you living so close to dallas brining your car to the yard will be a good idea soeverytime you get there you can take off.
steppin Thanks this. -
Ok, thank you again! I had planned on going to the school in Lancaster. They tell me that they have dorms for the students. I could actually drive home though if need be. The recruiter tells me that they train for 18 days only? Nevertheless I am anxious to get on the road!

I was to when I first started to.the academy is in fort worth the termi al is in lancaster I got lucky I had my own room in the barracks it was nice..you do have to supply your food though it would be nice if your mom could bring you some homecookin lol

LOL, well I am a mom and well....I am so glad I found someone that knows the company and I can get information from first hand! Its been a lot of research and I just found FFE today so I applied right away but was not sure if they were really that good of a company. I want to bring my critter on the road with me and that is very important along with other things. Do you remember seeing very many women in the school?

Yes we had 1 In a class of 23 but there are alot of female trainers there however I suggest if at all possible try and get a male trainer all the men there were former military and are well versed in there abilities. Lucky you will not stay in the barracks u will be in the hotel the entire time and its a very nice hotel with a breakfast bar that is really good.

I have another question. Is it hard to get in? Do you know when the classes start? Well Im sure that is a good question for my recruiter!

Every 2 weeks I think is when the classes start no its not hard but it does take patience and the ability to focus you being use to tx roads will be a advantage they put 4 students and a trainer in the trk and you take turns all day long driving the trk then you g9 back to the yard and study till like 6pm in the class then they cut you lose. Classes start at like at 7am its a 11 or 12 hr day..

Stepping, FFE seems like the best choice for you since you live so close to the terminal. But for the sake of information and weighing options to see whats best for your situation, check out Prime Transport and Central Refridgerated also. They both have a pet policy, and are willing to train you for no upfront costs, just like FFE.

ffe is a good academy. the trainers are good at what they do. as for getting a male driving trainer? eh, dunno. I had Lisa and she was great. i think you said that you are a mom. if so then you wont have to worry about the dorms at all. you'll get to stay at the hotel the entire time your at the academy. (lucky you.) bring a swimsuit cause the pool looked pretty nice.
since you live in Texas i'd HIGHLY recommend you getting all your CDL permits BEFORE you get to the academy. you'll have to spend less days there, and if you decide to leave FFE before your year is up you will owe less. (i live near austin. went to the academy with my permit. left ffe after @ 3 months. they wanted $3,600 for the school, we settled @ $1,600.)
you will be responsible for your meals while your there, though if your at the hotel, you can score free breakfast every morning. I'd highly recommend bringing enough food to last the first couple of days. the first two trips they make to wal-mart can be jammed packed with bodies.
I think this thread started about asking about pets. yes they allow pets. they charge .01 a mile for you to have one and a deposit $150 maybe? my advice? just bring your dog along and don't tell anyone. NOBODY @ the yard will have a clue if your paying to have the dog/cat. once you hit the yard you'll notice that. the only people that know are payroll and with so many drivers they don't have a clue who you are.
i'd highly recommend at least skimming this thread.. http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...-here/138602-the-new-ffe-driver-academey.html
some good info there.
best of luck, btw, have you checked out millis or stevens? just curious.steppin Thanks this.
