I am familly dollar for jb hunt Ilike it a lot it is work you will stay in shape and you do go into downtown areas and into tight places were you have to blindside sometimes I will have to 90 degree blindside in at every store . The pay is high some of the loads Ihave been running pay 500 dollars apiece and we run three a week they are also flexible with your scheduling at jb within reason so that's been a huge plus for me with two kids and doctors appointments for them . Which dc and what company were you looking at $
-
I'm looking into Schneider is it a good start
-
Schneider doesn't run out of my dc I don't know what they are paying . They are a decent.company the important thing is do they provide good training on the account with good trainers available to call because your training at trucking school with a years experience won't cut it we have to do deliveries in the inner cities and in the mountains way off the interstates and then do precision backs in to verry small store so ask about account specific training . Jb makes experienced drivers do a weeks worth of training even if you have been driveing twenty years . So ask about training on the account if they don't have any it could be a tough transition from otr .

Thanks I will do that

just look at the family dollar lots and think about how your going to get a truck in here.I know a couple of drivers who have a record of preventable accidents that was caused by those lots.and unloading when its 100 degrees may be a challenge
-
Well I have been doing it a year with no preventables I took this job with almost nine years of experience though you just have to take your time and get out and look .
-
Is it good money in it scnn

G.O.A.L. Best way to prevent an accident. The lots are tight and you will work your butt off. You will also come across store employees who would rather see the dentist than see you. If you want to do dedicated, try the Home Depot account. They make good money and most of the lots you go into, most not all, have plenty of room no move around without any issues. Mostly everything is either drop and hook or double drop and hook. 25 bucks per drop. One night I had to drop three times and walked away with 75 bucks plus the mileage. Also got paid 200 bucks for being the standby driver. Walked around walmart for 3 hours and was told to go home because everything was covered. the only part I didn't like was the fact that you do not have an assigned truck. You grab whatever truck comes in when its your turn.

The thing about dedicated accounts is there is no job security . Carriers bid on the contracts every couple of years . The carrier you go with might have had it for a year and a half and might lose it in 6 months .
