Had a job to move a 75,000 lbs precast cell phone shelter . Only problem was the land owners that wanted Zero trees cut . They want the cell company's money but no trees cut :biggrin_2556: . That made using a trailer impossible . So the boss came up with this deal . I'm in the KW (sorry about the small pics) .
Kingpins welded to 10" h beams and two trucks . Loaded it in the street , Then I rode backs up a hill and into a guys drive way then I would lead through the brush . The plan was , who ever was going forward would do the pulling . Worked until the little knob just before the guys drive when the Pete lost traction . then I had to help . two completely different trucks Two completely different gear ratios .

I wound up slipping just a bit to get the whole thing moving again . The rest was just weaving thru the trees

Cool post. We have been doing this for lots of years in the oil patch. We call it double trucking and we do it with derricks that can be 300 feet long and also the substructures that can be 25 ft wide and 250k lbs. If you ever do it again I would suggest building decent bolsters not just using I beam a bolster consists of I beam with a bunch of fish plating done to it. Also if you come to a hill that the lead truck might have trouble with slip it into reverse before he wipes his feet then when he has trouble all you have to do is throttle into it. Also on the bolster instead of a weld on pin make a sleeve through it that you can drop a pin through that way you are pulling on more than just a weld. I'll post pics if you want.

I was going to post and call it Two-Truckin. Seen it done before. Anyways, cool pics and great post. This is one of the reasons why I like the job so much...problem solving a its finest. Great opening post, and great response, haul hand.

What are you smoking? Yes, moving a derrick with two trucks happens. So does moving the bottom half complete with A-legs on a tandem. But seriously 300' derricks? Right. Maybe just a little more than half that is a little closer to the truth.

Seen setups like this before hauling derriks on tv but never in the woods. Pretty #### ingenious idea imo. But why the hell do you want the cell companys money and all them #### trees. What good are they other than a wind block? Then again its blowing 45 here i could use some trees lol

You know your right I meant to post right at 200 foot. I didn't catch that I hit the three instead. I was just wanting to explain that that happens all the time. You should try setting a bridge on four bed trucks and crossing a river with two cranes holding the middle that one was fun.

Most land rigs (not offshore ) are less than 150'. I knew 300' was way off.

Yep your right. Biggest rig we ever moved had a Derrick of 165 foot.I just checked my records. That was a big #######. Sorry for the confusion.
