Roehl has the Veterans Apprenticeship program as well. Contact recruiting. I think his name is Alan, maybe they can get you in touch with him. I am in the program but was no longer eligible for GI BILL benefits. Roehl is pro veteran, there are a lot of veterans with the company. It would at least give you something to use as a comparison. I wish you the best with your pursuits.

Thanks for the tip, I did some checking and they don't have any terminals on the west coast.
-
Oh... glad to hear ya are feeling better!
Going out with your trainer soon? -
My experience with Roehl thus far is that people are just decent and respectful and that goes a long way for me.Bigdubber Thanks this. -
dont waste your GI Bill on driving a truck. It is a very good resource worth over 50k, and that is chapter 30. Living in Oregon, I am sure the BAH you will receive is like less than 1k per month..which equates to about 12k.
You are up in the pac NW, so go apply at an LTL company and do their driver apprentice program. It's a cheaper route or try to get a WIA grant from your workforce office. -
Ok so what's a wia and LTL? According to the DoD calculator for BAH it's 1400 a month while I am in school and then 1200 a month for my first year of employment with them in addition to reg pay. I'd be doing chapter 33 of the GI Bill so I get full tuition coverage since my family and I are barely scraping by on my unempolyment and my wife's part time

I am looking at attending PAM training. Have read a lot of not so good stuff on the forum. Do you know how to find other companies that pay for the training? Don't mind a year of indentured servitude if they will pay up front costs... Any other suggestions as to what I should be cautious about? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Covenant has the mpact program. But if you dont plan on teaming or becoming a trainer, dont come here.
With mpact you start out making more money then you get your bah for up to a year but be wise on how you use the va money. -
I would look for a CDL school that allows you to use your GI-Bill benefits while going to school (one-two months). Once you have your CDL you can start driving and earn money that way, negating the need for BAH. This would allow you to save up your benefits so you can put them towards something else should truck driving not work out.
I'm speaking from experience here.. I got out of the USMC last March and have been driving since then. I do however, plan on stopping within 1.5-2 years. I'm working on my college courses online through my local (home) college, with an agreement to start going full time on-campus once I receive my associates degree. At that point I'll start using my GI-Bill so I can get my bachelors and have it pay for my Masters.. In my eyes, that's the best way to do it, and very easily done with truck driving.
Just an idea though.. but I wouldn't waste much of your benefits on those year long programs for driving, because if/when you decide to use them for something else, you'll be extremely happy it's there. It would suck to get through 3 years of college and then run out of benefits.. -
Slhawkins I am using my benefits to go to school the program is 2 months but beyond that the bah I would get for that first year trucking is just part of Schneiders program. I defenitly do not want to waste my benefits and would love to continue to go to school. So what your saying is once I get done with any training period at a new company i would be making enough to where that bah is unnecessary?
