Ok then, so by your line of reasoning we should start doing random hair tests for alcohol and precluding anyone who has had a legal drink in the last 90 days from driving a truck until they undergo an alcohol treatment plan and successfully complete it. Including about a years worth of hair tests to make sure that he hasn't had anything to drink at all.
Oh by the way, I don't drink or smoke pot, but I think marijuana prohibition is ineffective and very costly.
I as a us citizen can legally fly to Amsterdam do anything that is legal under the laws there, fly back to the USA and not have done anything illegal under US law.
Really I think alcohol users should be banned from the trucking industry for safety reasons. -
several companies already do hair tests. and no my line of reasoning is everybody here is arguing a mute point. pot is illegal and this is what the thread is about. not comparing it to beer just because i have it as an avatar. why not compare pot against coke, crack, herion, or any other of the illegal drug. and the way i see it is when something bothers somebody they usually have some kind of guilty feelings somewhere. -
and what about all the good pot is doing ? it is widely used in cancer treatment. and it can be/is grown naturally and given to us by the big man himself. what do you think was in the indians peace pipes ? and you never see a person high off pot wanting to drive a car or get in a fight. all they want to do is eat, sleep and screw. alchol on the other hand is the liquid confidence that makes people not think clearly. just look at the warning labels on the side of each beer. i am not say pot is ok, gotta clear that up, and i am totally against it but who the hek are we to judge what somebody does in there own time. people can do what they want but just not in this industry.

It's not reasonable, IMHO, to compare pot to crack, coke or meth because those drugs are VASTLY different from pot.
Pot really is about equal to alcohol in that a little bit of it does no one any real harm.
Coke, crack and meth are easily compared with an excess of alcohol - where you would do dangerous and stupid things. An excess of pot doesn't do that.
And if you're implying I have guilty feelings about pot, you're way off base. I can't stand pot or alcohol - I think they should both be banned but that's NOT going to happen so I don't waste my time arguing about it.
I think Joe has a valid point and IF they are going to give you a bad point/knock/whatever you call it for doing pot, I honestly think they should HAVE to do a test to prove WHEN you smoked that pot. If it was more than 24 hours ago, it's irrelevant completely - just like alcohol. The affects are long gone and don't have any impact on your ability to do your job, ANY job. But that's not going to happen, either, unfortunately, because too many things in this world ARE black and white - even when they shouldn't be.
Just my opinion
-
You know studies have shown, that people who drink alcohol are 1,000% more likely to be involved in heavy truck accident fatalities where alcohol use by the CDL holder was a contributing cause of the fatality.
-
I believe the main argument here, Joe, is that a lot of truck drivers NEVER drink within hours of being on the job. They drink the day they finish and have a good 24 hours or more before they start work again so are perfectly totally completely sober when they get back in the truck and that's perfectly legal.
Unfortunately, those who smoke ONE joint are not in the same boat as, even though they are perfectly, totally, completely sober, their test says they're not.
I don't believe ANYONE here is advocating that it's okay to drink and drive or even drink near to the time you will be driving. -
and that's what we need to get back to, the main point. we can sit here and argue this all weekend if we don't. and what happened to the original poster ? kinda like he stirred the pot and left.
