Honestly you can get away with a plug in inverter.
Just put it up when you put the Truck in the Shop.

Just have to make sure the fridge power draw doesn't overload the inverter. Mine draws 150 watts when it's running but when the compressor first kicks in, it spikes up to 350 watts.

It may not be a cooler problem.

I've had several trucks in the past couple years, and each is different.
Some will overheat the plugs while others won't.
I had one cooler that was overheating in a truck, but when I switched trucks the overheating problem went away.

In my current truck (2013 Volvo) and with a Coleman cooler, I have no problems.

You might also try a plug that is on a different circuit.

I ran a wire from the battery do a switch on the dash, and from there to a deep cycle marine battery and then from there to the cooler, that way I could run it all night without wearing the truck batteries down, it lasted a good 12 hours like that.

I've had a couple of cooler plugs go bad. Contacted Coleman. Had to cut off the plug of the old cooler. Sent it to them and they sent me a brand new cooler.

My problem was the recepticle. Cut it off hard wired the cooler problem solved. My t-2 has a dedicated recepticle with a dash switch so it made it easy. Ilike the deep cycle idea thought about that once then forgot about it or was it something else? Don't remember, think it's time for bed or something.

In my trucker's opinion, purchase a truck fridge. Mine has a small freezer in it foe frozen foods. I have had it in the truck around 5 yrs now. No issues at all. Easy install. It has never discharged the batteries. It is a well built piece of equipment. Just my opinion.

well, my splice job didn't work. it blew the fuse in all ac outlets but one. it would work for a few minutes on each plug, but then would stop. i need the last outlet for coffee and phone charger. have a '14 freightliner cascadia.
