They do a surface one yes, but details sometimes take time... Also the questionnaire you first fill out, they ask you those same questions at other times... If the answers don't match, red flags get raised... Not sure of the details of what they do, but some people coming into this field aren't the sharpest tools in the shed, and think they can BS their way through.
-
Does it require filling out a new application to make sure they match, or they just ask you the questions in an interview?
-
Mine was verbal (over the phone... then in person once I got there) after the paperwork was turned in... So I kept a copy of it so I would remember what I put down

When I went through we lost a slew on the first day because people either had criminal records they forgot to mention, lacked paperwork they were told to bring, or failed the medical. After the first day we lost 2 to drugs, and almost everyone else made it to the end. If you are honest before you go, don't do drugs, and are at least passably physically fit you don't have much to worry about. You DO however need to take the class seriously and put in the effort to pass your tests. We actually only lost one after making it to slc for the driving part.

How did you get a copy of your application? I did my application online...can i request a copy from my recruiter?

The best thing is to be straight up honest with them and with yourself. These two things are the most common reason for post bus ride wash out. If you've did something you're not proud of, so what we all have. Just disclose it when asked to. If they find out about it and you haven't mentioned it, it's more than likely the end of the road but if you disclose it then they will be more inclined to work with you. Most of all look at this realistically it's a major career change and complete lifestyle shift for most if not all new recruits. A lot of people try to get into this industry as a nessecity or because of glamorous tall tales of how it used to be that they've been told. This is an industry that you must enjoy and really have a love for to be successful in. I'm not trying to discourage anyone from wanting to try it out, all I'm saying is go into it with a level head and make educated decisions based on facts not unrealistic dreams. As a trainer for Central I see it all to often that students basically "jump off the bridge before they know how deep the river is". All this does is cost everybody involved time, money and effort. I hope all of this makes since.

It is easier to tell the truth than it is to remember a lie......
