Likewise, I seriously doubt a company puke in the oil patches at NETTING $93,000 either in a year as well. Especially if they are going home for a week each month. That would mean GROSSING $135,000 in 9 months work.

I know for a fact, I am not burning my body out running nearly as hard as someone in the oil field.

Can't say what I'll net this year. First year, maintenance is skewed against me and I knew that going into it.

Just for comparison, I make .48 per hub mile & $30 per extra stop (of which I get many), & last year I grossed $65k. I worked the equivalent of 10.5 months with all my time off. My point is that income will vary according to one's need for time off.

The real question should be, can you? So you owned a truck and couldn't make that kind of scratch, so be it. I will guarantee you that there are guys (more than you think) doing it. And you don't have to be in a niche market to accomplish it either.

    MNdriver Thanks this.

What I do has no bearing on this thread, and frankly is not anyone's business.

Instead of telling me I'm wrong why not show the original poster I am. I'm willing to be wrong. The problem is I've had these back and forth post with others and no one has been able to prove my analysis wrong. Are we not trying to help others make an informed decision? How can you, or anyone else do that that by just telling me I'm wrong. Prove your point.

For the OP here is a link to my experience as an O/O leased to a carrier that may be helpful: http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...erator/64679-my-numbers-o-o-leased-crete.html

That is from your thread, there is no way with numbers like that, that you can come out ahead owning a truck. Even if you were getting .60cpm for fuel surcharge would that be even close to profitable.

Why did you miss this from the very first post on that thread... 'you are showing a Net Profit of $74,087 for
the year-to-date period. This comes out to $0.491 cents per mile and is based
    on 151,027 paid miles.'?

Instead of trying to have a pi$$ing match with me, how about you bring some useful info to the discussion.

I didn't know a big battle would ensue or insults would be hurled because of my inquiry. Some of the thread has been helpful. But, MNDriver, if you think $1,800 net for one week of pay is lot for hauling crude in ND, I'm telling you, it is not. That's pretty much what the guys (and gals) are bringing home. I'm talking about the good, experienced, hard working drivers. There are plenty of others not making so much. He has no deductions other than taxes as I cover the medical benefits. This last check was close to $2,300 net, that was definitely the exception, but the usual is $1,800 net for one week. My guy gets 30% of the load and runs 14 hour days. And he gets free housing. Right now, it's ####### time and pumps are flowing. On the downside, you do have your slow times, or the truck can go down, repairs are a ##### and then there's the weight restrictions on the roads in the spring, etc. And yes, the hours are grueling...but he's hard core and because of the job, he's the most physically fit he's been in 20 years of trucking. The money is not this great ALL the time....but right now that the truck is running and the wells are cranked up, yes, it's all good. It's actually pretty freaking great. I have the checkstubs to prove it and NOTHING to gain by spouting my mouth off now. But, pukes like YOU piss me off. I came on here looking for a simple answer....can THIS kind of money be made as an owner/operator? Nope....doesn't sound like it. Thanks to the rest for your courteous responses.
