The center bolt in the spring must be sheared off. Head of the bolt fits in a recess in the axle to locate it . Will need to pull that side apart and replace the center bolt . Not bad repair.
Driver4Christ Thanks this. -
Thank you, just found out it is as you described. Being a1999 truck I wonder if the other 3 needs to be replace as well? your comment is appreciated.

Sadly only one way to check , unless they are showing signs of movement. That's take them apart the checking, if you do that I would go ahead and replace them , labor will be the same. But I would not do that till you see signs of movement. How long ago did you buy this one ?

Purchased about 10 months ago. No signs of movements on others The cause appears to be age, hard braking, & possibly too many pot holes and rough roads
how many hours to remove & installedLast edited: Feb 25, 2013

Thinking about 2 hours per spring. Ubolts can be a bear. Usually replaced them when taking them apart, so I cut them instead of wasting hours .

I'd replace both sides u bolts as they are most likely stretched from the movement. It is always recommended to replace them rather than reuse them.

This.
Go ahead and replace the pins on both sides of that axle, along with the U bolts. I have welded the spring mounts to the axle in the past and never had an issue (due to time restraints etc) but that is your call.
