Don't know who you work for, but it sure sounds like you need to find another job, PRONTO. BEFORE you screw up your driving career to the point that no one will hire you.

If a company (my opinion here) does not pay the CAT ticket, they are either very cheap illigetemti or their finances are so bad, they can't afford to. Either way, it's time to move on.
After many years on the road, I now work nighttime operations for a large company.
I cannot begin to tell you the pain from drivers when they get smacked for overweight tickets. It's their cost. We pay all scale tickets, reweighs and will even give the driver an advance to make sure they scale.
I can't imagine how a driver explains to their spouse that their paycheck is light several hundred dollars because they failed to scale their load.
And I can tell you from experience, you can be WAY over on an axle and still only have 38,000 in the box.

the company can file the scale tickets and get reimbursed. that is why it has the time and date and company name on the drivers copy. it is a legal document in the event of a discrepancy between the ticket and the DOT scale.

Driving illegal hours is bad enough. If you don't mind doing it, go right ahead and hope you don't get caught...but I wouldn't unless it was to benefit myself to get me home, not to benefit the company.

As far as CAT scales, most all companies pay for them. But if your company won't, you either have to pay for it, then file it on taxes to get some back, or just hope you don't get a ticket.

As far as what weight to scale at, that's up to you. I've had a 38k load weigh heavy on my drives and I can slide my tandems to 38ft from kingpin(2 ft closer than CA law).

I never heard of such a thing. Many times overweight tickets are issued to the company. Company threatens driver to pay or get fired. Driver sticks finger up and runs like hell. Then the company has to pay the ticket. It's beneficial for a company to encourage and pay for scale tickets.

Sounds like a tight wad to me and his money saving ideas will backfire on him. Once you get experience you'll get better with loading and sliding axles. I could feel comfortable with 38K but not 44K. :biggrin_25524:

    Don't kick yourself too bad.

My boss is a dork about paying for cat scales too. He figures i have air gages, that's good enough.

I am comfortable up to 43k, after that, it depends on the load.

Most times, i set the back of the tandem at the edge of the load.

I'm pretty good at sliding my tandems to even out the weight up to 42000-43000 if all the product is the same but it gets tricky when u got mix product some pallets big some small also them paper rolls they're all different weight and sizes

Sorry, but no one is forcing u to drive illegal. You have a right and a case.

But do this, when you go over hours and I'm going to say you push it back so it looks like u just woke up?
When u rip the old pages out, keep them going in another binder, that way if #### really goes sour u have something to Threaten them with, u may get in trouble too. But if you're going to kill ur career or even ur self take the employer with you!

I run just like u but no one Forces me I'll ram my truck up the dispatchers arse

Same here, but I typically cut it off at what shipper calls 42k. After that I feel the need to scale.
