yea pti works for pre trip and post trip.......dot can not make up their mind on which is required and the green book keeps bouncing back and forth...i get the big verison every year. the one that dot uses to write you a ticket. i compared what was in it verus what was in the truck version...they where different the truck one said a pre trip was required to be logged while the dots big book said a post trip....now owning my own truck and trailer i am not going to check my truck out after i worked it...i check it before. this way i know before i fire it up oil water and all are good. but the laws bounce around so safest way is to flag them all as PTI

Not having the log signed makes no different .
Failing to show current duty status will get you 5 CSA points . That will be x3 for the fisrt year - 15 points .- .http://freight.about.com/od/Legal/tp/Csa-Point-Values.htm
- How does time severity work in the Driver Safety Measurement System (DSMS)?
The violations in DSMS are impacted by time severity; that is, more recent violations are weighted more heavily than older violations that occurred within the last year count 3 times, violations that occurred between one and two years ago count 2 times, and violations between two and three years old count only 1 time. - http://www.csa2010.com/articles/Drivers_CSA_Frequently_Asked_Questions_Answer_Page.htm

This is how to work 80 -85 hours a week logging 65 - 70 . Not the way to do it . Simple way to log is log it as you do it . It's not the FMCSA you need to worry about . It's lawyers . Their investigations make FMCSA auditors look like a bunch of amateurs . Falsifying logs is a felony and drivers and company owners have been prosecuted .truckmonkey and LaBubba Thank this.

Now it has been argues here that nowhere do regulations state a post trip inspection needs to be done BUT a written DVIR must be done at the end of the day . Now how are you going to do that if you don't look at it ? I do understand you are probably pretty tired at the end of the day after working 16 hours or more logging 15 minutes each load or unload to gain an hour or two .
truckmonkey Thanks this. -
It's not a felony. Its a misdemeanor.

Call me crazy but I log pre trip inspection and a post trip inspection, CYA I say for my own peace of mind.
Don't show the man any receipts or your mile log, note books etc. -
