Ive been asked for my twic card all of one time and I get to the port of houston a few times a year. Biggest waste of money and Ive heard on the news that congress is thinking of doing away with it because its so useless.

What purpose is there for it? It's to identify you right? What's wrong with the state issued CDLs we all carry around already?

BINGO!! and that is exactly what most places ask for. Secondly most ports dont have the card readers needed to utilize the twic card anyway, hence its useless. It was a stupid idea to begin with because the bad guy isnt going to steal a load in the port he's gonna hijack it after it leaves the port. He dont need atwic card to hijack a driver and wouldnt get one if you tried to tell him he did, lol. Politicians are stupid and think we are even more stupid.

The ideal behind the TWIC was that it would (and does) contain your finger prints. When entering a facility your finger prints would have to match those digitally stored on the card. This way you couldn't loan your card to someone or simply forge one. The problem with this system is the fact they never developed the card readers. So your TWIC is just another photo ID.
Interesting side note, criminals have developed the card readers and can scan your card from a few feet away. All the information you gave for the TWIC (including finger prints) is now in the hands of a criminal. One way to protect you card is put it in a RF proof case, or wrap it in tin foil, or just burn it. Thank you Homeland Security!

I was at the port in Newark, NJ. You either had to have the card or get an escort(not that kind). Thing is, the guy that was suppose to escort me took off in his little Mazda and left me. I had to find the place myself....stupid.
What's worse is if you have your hazmat like me....you go through the exact same background check. Why is it not surprising that we have TWO government agencies doing the same thing, yet neither one knows what the other is doing?

And why is the TWIC not recognized by the DOD they have their own ID card and back ground check. The only thug all of these IDs have in common is that the cost us money, and are a big pain it the ###.

    Evil_E and Danfromwindsor Thank this.
