400BC Cummins engine heads

    Couple weeks ago I posted a thread on my 89 Freightliner that has fuel in the water.it also has some seepage on the center head (there is three heads).truck has over a million miles on it and who knows how many past owners so I guess it is time for some wrenching.thought I'd pull the heads and have them magged and pressure tested and get the injectors redone etc.in the event i need something,local machine shop wants $700 for each head and $140 for injectors. I'd like to get a second opinion/price,seems a bit high for the heads at least...any thought or names of places to get different prices? Michigan area,thanks as always

    not sure where to get the heads in mi but thats high for big cam heads but then again every thing in mi is high im up there often

    Try calling your local Cummins dealer for reman heads. I don't think they are too expensive. The most important thing is with genuine Cummins reman you get parts warranty they will stand behind. Heads done at the local machine shop may be hard to deal with should something be wrong after it is together. Have your engine serial number when you call and they should be able to at least give you a price within minutes.

    Remains should be no more than 350 to 400 he is right i just overhauled a 79 western star with a bc 400 heads and injectors less than 1500 remains of course but im in texas

    last summer each head was 335 for my nt88 with stc
