I settled for that tow away load. Picked up a pre-loaded trailer at the Army base in French Camp and making two delivers to the Army bases in south central California. My net revenue is about $700 for a day and a halfs work. That was more than I would sometimes make for a whole week at CR England.

I found 3 agents that handle roller van loads but all the freight moves out of southern California. So I need to figure out how to get down there or if I can find a high paying load I will just eat the deadhead cost.

It is interesting. Major difference between my old company and Landstar. I can see the potential to make a lot of money if you just hustle on the phone and do some "networking."

Good job Dewey. First load is something out of the norm, gonna make a little cash and be ready for Monday. Don't be afraid to cold call and once you've run for some good agents call them when your coming back to their area. Also, when you find agents that you like, ask them what other lanes they have and write it down for future reference when your in that area. For all the naysayers, I'm gonna count up my days worked last year and I'll post it with how many nights in the truck. I guarantee I didn't work 200 days and still made a healthy profit and I live in FL. At this point, I couldn't stand working 5 days a week, week in week out, unless my net was over $120,000.

I never had my truck searched inside and out like they did at the Army base in French Camp. Felt like someone was looking up my Wife's skirt. Plus the questions they ask you are a little intrusive. But I guess that's protocol.

Look.up SUL. They pull furniture loads out of grants pass oregon. Usually short hauls in the west in the high
$2 to $3 range. I never got a chance to pull for them but they were always looking for guys to pull for them. Jkw pulls alot out of calexico going to the northwest and maybe see if you can pull grants pass back south. Might work out from time to time.

Hey vegas, if you end up moving to Chicago let me know. There is plenty of OTR jobs home every week around me. Also there is some oppurtunity for great paying local gigs, just have to look often! UPS, conway, fedex and some union concrete jobs. Pay is awesome and so are benefits. Downside is union.

Does anyway know if it's okay to load regular freight on wooden pallets onto a roller van trailer? The guy from trailer utilization says it's okay but I do not want to get to a shipper and the forklift operator will refuse to load it because of the rollers.

Dewey, when you get back to French Camp or on Monday give agent AOT a call, Mark or Matt. See if they have any wine barrels moving out of NorCal. 25,000# or less to a good area...don't want to give details here. Don't focus too much on roller trlr freight unless somebody can keep you busy for sure.......it might pay good but probably spotty like with the crane trailers. Get moving and get rid of that trailer ASAP.
