They can both look exactly the same (rating, specs) but have completely different fuel maps, timing maps and serveral other things. If both ecms are stock never been programmed then you also need to check the part numbers of cam and injectors as there coulb be a few variations for a 500hp engine.

The early egr motors were ddec iv. and there were 12.7 egr motors. A 2007 series 60 may be a ddec 6. I don't know of anyone who can really do anything with them yet

fitz may have a pre nox program in ecm

Not sure where to begin with my s60 430/500. would like to see better mpg and power but not looking to make a monster. I just had the ecm replaced about 15k miles ago and had a Detroit dealer do a tune up about 100k miles ago. engine has approx. 780k on it. does not get the mpg it got before the tune up and now does not run as smooth since the new ecm. I would consider a non waste gate turbo and possibly a re program. I do not wish to cut, drill, grind, or adjust components that will make it difficult for future diagnostics on the engine. after reading countless posts I am curious what would be the best way to proceed. This engine has been very dependable and uses very little oil. mileage dropped from 6.8-7.2 down to 5.4-6.0 since the tune up and new ecm. Any ideas?

One, the overhead is probably not ran right. The tolerances are very close and it is easy to get them off. You must check, tighten lock nut, then check again. Must also make sure the drag on the feeler gauge is just right, not have to pull it out. The sequence is very important, and adjusting the jakes the correct way is also time consuming. Not many people are willing to take the time to do it cold and right.
Also, I would suggest your new ECM has the latest low nox program that is also hurting mileage considerably. -
