Looking for some opinions from Panther Drivers..

I am new to expediting! I was pre-approved for Panther. An owner is offering me cargo van, with 65/35 split with 100% fuel surcharge going to me. No sleeping arrangements, says a blow up mattress has been used is the past.

Is this typical? Does this sound like a good arrangement? Any info/opinions would be appreciated.....

    Thanks

It's the opinion of most that a cargo van doesn't provide enough revenue for both a driver and owner . Ask the owner the average rate the van gets and average miles per week . Then calculate how much you'd have to pay for fuel out of your 65% .

Then figure cost of their base fuel rate minus the FSC . How do they formulate the FSC for cargo vans ? Do they pay the FSC on all miles or just loaded miles ?

This person wont answer any questions in regard to money..So I just told him, I am not interested. What kind of moron would try to hire someone and not give any particulars in regards to the financial aspect....

Then he went on to saying, If you would like to purchase my van, I can sell it to you for $6000...
$6000, is kinda a small price for a van therefore I think he has junk anyways.

Just FYI if you decide to go with Panther in cargo van, some vans are contracted at .77 cpm and some are at .71 cpm,van fleet owners who been in contract with Panther for few years would be on a .77 cpm but newer contracts are .71 cpm, also even tho your van is contracted at either .71 or .77 I been hearing a lot lately that they been offering loads for under .50 cpm!:biggrin_25513:

Make sure who ever you drive for sends you a contract that states what the van makes and what you get, there a lot a bad fleet owners out there that an't making no money so they are ripping off drivers. Also I said before there ready no good profit if you drive a van solo and your not the owner, some van teams do ok but if you want'a make a good living in a van solo you need to be an o/o cause time your owner gets his cut there nothing left much on the meat. Most van fleet owners wouldn't accept solos any way at lease not the good ones, sounds like this guy is trying pass a fast one and that's a big red flag right there.

    RickG Thanks this.

Panther called me the other day. Seems they want their partner carriers to have 1 mil. in general liability now since being bought out.
lady said they'd lost about half their "partner" carriers due this and they're trying to change it.
The couple loads I hauled paid ok but they are more worrisome than tql. I have their contract and it has a excellence program or something
along those lines in it where it has lots of way for them to deduct money from your pay only an idiot would sign that part of the contract.

Can you make money with your own cargo van at Panther? Where do you sleep if you're loaded up?

At 71-77 cpm?? no.... The whole idea behind most if not all cargo van freight is you pickup the load, drive until you get to the receiver, and deliver. I don't think any of that freight sits on a truck long enough for the driver to be sleeping.
