    I was hoping the tanker guys in here wouldn't mind if i started a tanker terminology thread in here, Im highly interested in tankers myself, so all input on this would be greatly appreciated.

    As the thread grows, i'll copy and paste them into this first post.

    Are there any terms that a newbie should know? Any west coast tanker training schools? What something about driving tankers (besides the surge) that people just don't know?

    Tanker companies have their own schools; specific to the type of tanker work they do. Prime & Schneider have tanker schools and will hire and train new CDL drivers.

    Quality Carriers has dropped their OTR required experience from 2 years to 6 months . They have 1 week paid orientation then the driver usually has a trainer stay with them for a week or two .
    Orientation is mostly on paperwork and company regulations , PPE , and vdeos . One day is spent loading and unloading , no driving . They have a 2 compartment tanker hooked to a tractor . You use the pump to unload one compartment to the other then air unload it back .

    This is really good info......... RickG: in your opinion would you say it is almost impossible to get a tanker job with no OTR exp. (just a few years local exp.) Im starting to get the feeling that if i ever wanna haul a tanker, im gonna have to go to a tanker school (prime/schneider/?) for 6 months
