Well, since you're from Dothan, I'd like to ask how often you wanna get home? Are you married? Is one of your desires to be a driver to see the country more than $$? Are you a nit picker? These are some of the questions that I think are pertinent to a new driver.
First of all, you will be limited by your experience or lack thereof. I would suggest a company with a good trainer/trainee program (quickest way to get started). Here are my suggestions:
    a) PTI..Paper Transport Inc. Services the paper mill in Cedar Springs, Ga. and other mills in the southeast. Stays primarily east of the Mississippi.
    b) AMX...Alabama Motor Express (Don't have much info, only know they're close to Dothan, east on 84
    c) FFE Transportation (if being away from home is no problem)
    d) SRT...Southern Refrigerated Transport ( I work for these guys on a dedicated route..that's all I'm saying)
    e) Circle City in Dothan
    f) Maverick (mostly flatbed)
These are big companies that are kinda easy to get on with. But, because they are bigger, it is easy for a new driver to be overlooked. You will get lots of miles and experience until you can find a place that suits you best.

Thank you treyzguy for all information. I just completed orientation with con-way and waiting for Trainer to go on the road. I hope everything works out otherwise will try companies you mentioned. What I read about Con-way is good company what is your opinion?

I heard good things about Con-Way but remember when listening to others opinions. What's good for others may not work for you and vice versa. The best way to find what works for you is to walk the path yourself. Good luck.

Good evening truckers I'm new to the trucking industries and just graduated from a training school and now I'm looking and filling out applications for a driving job over the road. I just put in an application for JBS and was turned own immediately without even giving me the benefit of doubt. Yes I have a criminal back ground and I understand companies don't want to hire ex con. That is soo wrong especially when I have one arrest and one conviction. I made a mistake in my life and now I have my life back on the right track. Companies like JBS should be boy clotted for denying applications with out even giving someone the benefit of doubt. It's like all ex con who are on the right path are blocked by great companies due to a background this is not right at all and it should stop. Can anyone tell me what companies hire ex cons who care about the drivers and their commitment to a company.......

Just hold tight. After 2 drug felonies 20 year ago and 10 yrs if driving experience, I still had doors slammed in my face and would you believe from some of the worst companies in the industry. For some carriers you have to be 5 to 7 yrs clear from your conviction date. You may get in with someone and they will take advantage of you but embrace the experience , grow and move on. Always remember, trucking co's or any company for that matter can hire or fire whomever they want for whatever reason despite laws or gov't regulations. That is a fact !!! Stay on your grind , when you get 6 months experience get back to me. Don't stay stuck, when one door closes another will open. All the best !!!

The employment with truck companies is not about "life isn't fair." Also trucking companies don't hire rehab projects. What's happening, I think, is largely about satisfying their insurance companies and/or underwriters. Transportation is a risky business at any time, and they're reducing their risks by the practice of avoiding people with that "one mistake." You may be a great guy and a safe risk, but there are statistics out there that insurance companies live by. Jahdeeka has good information for you. If you keep pushing for work, I'm certain you'll find work. There are thousands of truck companies needing drivers, right now. Hang in there, make it work. Your checks will be all the sweeter for the additional effort.

"Rehab patients" , really ? Somethings in life aren't fair like the way trucking companies lobby politicians to keep freight cheap in order to squeeze out the independants , who by the way are pulled in for inspections more than these big companies. Your response was callous in regard to your comments. You don't know the details of the gentlman's situation but you have it in your heart to choose words to put people down. I know what you look like !!!
