What do you see as a big problem with today's new drivers? If you could teach a new driver 1 thing, what would it be?

I want to hear from all drivers, regardless of how long they have been trucking. We are all out on the roads together and we all see things we don't like. So many "wanna be's" come here looking for advice, GIVE IT TO THEM, without them having to look. (we all know how many redundant threads there are here!) If this thread helps just a few, well, that's a few better drivers out there with us.

Fire away y'all. Let's see what we can point out. (oh, and I got fuel islands and creative parking covered. :biggrin_25525:)

Get your fuel and get out of the fuel island.

If you need to shop, poop, take your 10, go find a parking stall

how about courtesy,as an old timer it just burns my rear end to hear other drivers given the younger one's grief about backing, parking. on the other hand it's just as bad when we try to give advice and all we hear is either," I know I know" or " I don't need you to tell me how to do my job"

When it's snowing, put your chains on in the chain up area, or before the grade instead of when you spin out on the hill and are now blocking everyone.

Looking and acting like a bum. It dives me crazy seeing all the drivers wearing ratty dirty clothes and smelling like they have not had a shower in a month.
Show some pride in what you do.
Do not be afraid to ask questions. A good driver will help another driver out and not play the It is a secret game.
There is way more but these are my two pet peeves.

If you get into a jam and dont know what to do stop and ask questions. For example if you miss your entrance to a shipper/receiver and are in a small area where there seems like no place to turn around, stop and figure out the best solution to the problem dont panic and make a quick descision based on what the circumstance might be. Horns honking, middle finger in the air, etc. from 4 wheelers, just ignore them and try and figure out the solution. SLOW DOWN, OR STOP, and figure it out, that is alot better than wiping out a telephone pole or getiing hung under a bridge or something else. Thats my $.02.
