my alternator ( i assume alternator) regulator must have went out and i noticed the volt gauge was way over 15 volts,, off the scale,, when i turned on headlights it went down to 15 volts, still too high but read on the gauge, i ran the truck for a day like this and when i went to start it in the morning it wouldnt start,, after some diagnosis, ie. no voltage to fuel solinoid, no check engine light at key on and also by pulling injector harness at computer and checking for voltage based on wiring diagram i found online i know i must have freind my ecm,, it a 93 international 9400 with cummins n14,, where can i get the computer rebuilt or exchanged,, i see many places online but wanted suggestions here before i shell out the 1500 bucks.. thanks
n14 ecm.. high voltage from alternator fried it, need rebuilt, suggestions

I would recommend calling a local dealer or good shop and ask them if they have a test ECM, (probably just a regular Celect ECM), that they could install just to make sure it does need an ECM.

A high voltage reading like you had can also be caused by a power wire being grounded and the truck will still run but may or may not act up...This happened to me! When you were checking for power the following day did you make sure your batteries were still charged? Not sure if you did it yet but take the alternator off and to autozone or some auto parts place and they will test it free of charge..good luck

sent ecm out to florida to be tested and repaired.. noone in area had spare ecm to test truck. found my voltage not to be high but my voltage gauge in truck to be wrong.. took alternator off and had tested, came back good,, not sure how or even if i fried the ecm but will know more tomorrow,, ecm tech said he should be able to tell what happened after he gets the computer. thanks all

did you check the fuse on the rear of the ECM... older wiring harnesses ecm gets its power feed though the starter so every time you start you engine you get low voltage to the ECM. Over time it kills you ECM... there is a revised harness that feeds from batteries.

the ecm will handle 30 volts so 15 will not burn it out but there is a fuse for power and ground on the ecm check them also remove cables and clean at batts
