Hello Boyz n Girlz,
This is your ol' pal VanillaGuerilla coming atcha from beautiful Blytheville,Ar. , Or as I prefer to call
it "the Land that Time Forgot"..Been rollin' 18 wheels since the mid 80's..gave it up for over 10 yrs. & this is where my problems begin. It's like a person fresh off the street has a better shot at ml an OTR job. I've experienced first if you don't have recent exp. nobody seems to be willing to give you the time of day. Too long of a lapse in time since I slept in a sleeper ? really? I've been driving everyday but it is for a large farm. The places I have to manevour around thru, the narrow muddy trails I have to take 80000+ lbs. but it's not the OTR exp. they want. I drive about 125 miles a day on interstate as well as dealing with "rush hour" traffic..
What's really going on? In the name of safety, why would you put a trainee out on the road instead of the vastly expdrienced veteran driver?
Farm life or the freeway

Systems broken down where you are that's what's going on, it's why your having issues with the experience thing. I'm not going to go into detail on that one as I know #### well I'll end up hurting someones feelings and getting flamed good.
You'd also be nuts to want to leave driving a "farm truck" for OTR. -
yep, I been thinkin', that was another problem ..lol..Farm life is pretty cool, plenty of hrs., farm owner pays my utilities & provides a nice brick home on about an acre lot.
The bad side is junk equipment, lazy co-workers, no chance of ever getting benefits. I guess it comes down to the fact that I miss being out on the road. Yes I said it!!! The road life gets into your blood, ya miss bad food at too high of prices, weak coffee,& who could ever forget that smell of a truck stop parking lot in the HOT summertime. If I keep on reminicsing maybe I'll talk myself back to logicality... -
if the farmer is willing to document your time, you my have a loop hole
-
Maybe an 0/0 at Bruce Oakley will hire you.
Panther Expedite will hire you right now as a cargo van driver; then you can graduate up to the big rigs.
Paschall Truck Lines is good about getting guys back on the road.
Other than that, bite the bullet; do a year with Prime Inc flatbed or tanker. No money needed & $600.00 a week while in training.
Hope this helps. Best wishes.
P.S. Look at the big picture. Don't wake up some morning old and broken down sitting on someone else's farm with no retirement or benefits.VanillaGuerilla Thanks this. -
yep, that's whatkeeps playin' thru my head. Gotta be in control of my income to a better degree. Feel like it would be a waste of time & resources to attempt to learn a new trade.
Averitt is another company that offrrs free refresher course, haven't checked into it yet..Chinatown Thanks this.
