the long hours im not worried about, as my last job for the past six yrs was flatbed, about 8-12 stops per day, averaged 325 miles per day and id usually start my day at 3 or 4 in the am and end by 3 pm. yeah it was a mon thru fri job but at this point, being out of work for 7 months i cant complain about the holidays lol.....of course once i get my routine down (if i even get the job) ill try switching to days after awhile. i like sleeping at night lol

Hey everyone. Been reading though this thread and its interesting and informative stuff so thanks for all the info. Im new to message board posting but been reading along for a while. Im interested in hauling gas but I have a question that I have not seen aasked. Im in central Florida and Im wondering if any of these companies (Eagle, Kenan, ect) would ever hire drivers to fill in rather than a set schedule?
Im in kind of a unique situation. I am a firefighter and have been for quite some time. I used to drive trucks before I settled down, mostly flatbed OTR and locally. Now in this environment the fire department has cut my pay two times 6% each time. And on top of that they are maing us payback two years worth of wage increases, for me that means I owe my employer over $12,000. It does not even seem legal but they are doing it. Anyway my point is that I still have my work schedule being 24 on and 48 off so I know I can work pretty much a full scedule doing something else so Id like to get back to driving. Have my class A with hazmat and tanker endorsements and even have doubles and triples as well.
From what Ive read here I could actually work nights hauling fuel so when I get off shift at the FD sleep and be rested for a driving shift if needed. So my question is would any company even consider having a driver that can fill all the shifts that might get a sick call or driver on vacation or just a shift they can not fill. That way they keep trucks rolling rather than sitting. Im not talking once a week Id be able to work 4 shift easy if needed. Thanks in advance for any information. I might add Id like to keep my FD job but with whats going on now if I found the right money Id strongly consider taking early retirement and walking away since we are being treated so poorly. -
Do they have a company down there call ferrellgas, they have what they call flex delivery drivers. They will work around your work schedule.

For part time keep in mind 70hrs of service for a seven day period. I know one driver in Nashville who worked as a mechanic for Broward county in FL. He worked for Eagle on the weekends. HE NEVER HAD A 34HR BREAK! If he would have had an accident, especially a fatal one? Their butts would be in a sling.
One beef I had was slip seat drivers not writing up defects and leaving them for the next guy to ignore. Then they were sluggish to get things fixed.
Hazmat placards are a bull's eye for the DOT. We didn't have a spare tank or tractor. I was told they couldn't afford to have one. So when you come in and find an out of service defect you either roll or go home. -

why may i ask did you choose eagle transport?( with all the other gas haulers out there. ) eagle is a good place to get started in hauling gas but once you get some experience under your belt you would probably be best to do some research and find another place to go. I was an employee with eagle for 7 years. there insurance (medical) is quite bias. Eagle transport is self insured. they will pay more for some than others, usually the office gets taken care of better. this is a fact. there pay is not up to par with the other companies due to the rates they haul the product. most of the dispatchers make the same or more than the drivers (fact). eagle has cut the rates so low that its hardly worth hauling it. the drivers are the ones that that take the hit for that. not trying to disourage you but you will be treated a whole lot better somewhere else. The reason i stayed so long was because i had same route everyday and just got complacent. if i had it to do over again i would stay about a year and go somewhere else.

What is bias jnsurance? IIRC their medical was not their's. The trucks yes.

We are dedicated to Eastman. Mostly out and back., most backhauls are out of Houston or Longview, TX. Most runs are east of Stillwater, OK, Canada loads are around Montreal or Toronto.
