I know what a hypocrite is. I wasn't born yesterday. And no, thats not the same. I, unlike the OP, know how to check my blind spots.

Tiny, good post. We don't know everything, we weren't there. How about this: the OP pulled out over a blind hill that he already knew was a high risk, dangerous intersection, right? So, here comes the van, maybe speeding, up the hill.....if the OP had checked for oncoming vehicles again during his turn, based on what he already knew, maybe that "collision" would not have occurred. Or, if the van driver had checked for traffic crossing the intersection, maybe the collision wouldn't have occurred. Too many "if's," I know, especially the van driver. He might have been an idiot, might not, we don't know and shouldn't guess about that. Does anyone else think the OP should have continued checking for cross traffic, especially based on what he knew? My reading and training, conversations with other drivers, includes always continuing to monitor cross traffic at intersections for this exact reason.rockee and Marksteven Thank this.

Did you get a lawyer? If not talk to one asap! Because with that fatality you are not going to get hired ,because insurance company wont approve you!

I believe the trucks steering was on the RIGHT side of the vehicle. So if he was turning right you have a large blind side in that scenario. Like you said we weren't there so it's all speculation.rockee Thanks this.

Your chances are going to be slim! However if you insist on pursuing this you may want to aim for the smaller mom and pop companies or maybe even an owner operator willing to take you. The problem being is their insurance company insuring you for a reasonable amount.

With a fatality I'm surprised there's no law suit. If they do get a lawyer I feel there's no chance for the driver. As others have stated we do not know all the particulars but would any of you hire a driver that's admits to pulling out onto a highway with a blind spot blocking his view? It sounds like to me he edged his way out onto the road not knowing what's in the blind spot. Either way with that ticket and if he's sued he'll never drive again. If he's lucky he'll find a driving job no one wants.
Marksteven Thanks this. -
I thought about that too, a fatality accident, and nobody sueing the trucking company? Naw something doesnt add up!
-
WOW, this thread is till going strong. Personally like i said previously i think he's a Troll. Either way, i wouldnt hire him. Like i said, not just because of the accident, but rather the lousy Attitude! No i dont need anyone to mention it can happen to me tomorrow, i'm well aware of it. But how big to shed some blame on someone who is Graveyard dead. You hit him, you killed him, you take the blunt of the responsability Period. Cops didnt do an investigation and charge you cause you have a CDL, thats pure Crapola. Maybe some 1 year Cdl wonder will take you on as a co-pilot but i wouldnt crawl into the Bunk with him behind the wheel, would anyone else?
Starboyjim and okiedokie Thank this. -
Because the investigation is still pending.
